Winter comes and winter goes,
frosted fingers and frosty toes.
Years go fast with each winter come,
Wonder I where years have gone.
Older I get the colder the winds,
yet more I value those cherished friends.
Their cards, letters and messages bring,
more hope than comes in the spring.
More precious they to me than gold,
my friends do bring me warmth in cold.
Like childhood days to me they bring,
more hope than even signs of spring.
Yet quicker still the years go by,
not one more minute will money buy.

Post a CommentWow! You are so talented and this is such a touching poem! I feel the exact same way about all my friends here on Yahoo Voices! You are all a true treasure to me, and, Jack you are more of a brother to me than my biological brother! He sees me as someone to compete with scold and correct, but, you see me for who I am on the inside. For you are my brother in Christ!!!
Beautiful words Jack. :)
So beautifully put! I learned long ago that when it gets down to the nitty-gritty or to just have someone to turn to who really understands us, it isn't necessarily family that we can rely on. We are given a family without any choice, but friends have chosen each other. When it comes to friends, our relationship becomes far deeper over the years (as you so aptly put), and we usually know each other far more than our family members do. Fortunately I have some longtime friends who are as dear to me as yours are to you. We are truly blessed. Happy Easter to you and yours, Jack!
Don't think I've read any of your poetry before. Great job. Friends are definitely treasures.
Friends are such a special part of life!!! I thank God for you, awesome read.
Very good!
I agree, what would the world be like without friends, and you "Jack" are a friend to many!
wonderful !
a delight to read - I saw a lady drop her cane the other day - people walked past her, careful not to make eye contact. she struggled to get it but it just slid through her hands. I asked if I could help her and she beamed and said"yes, thank you." I was glad to help and she was glad to continue her journey - she was off to see an old friend. That made me remember this article.
The older we get, those of us that are wise anyway, such as you, the more we cherish those that we love, and try to have compassion and love for those who aren't so loveable. Beautiful poem my dear friend. Praying for you too. love the photo too. What darling children.
