The Hidden Agenda

A.M. Morgan
Like a thief in the night
It creeps in quietly
Wearing a mask it often smiles at me
Questioning my value and self worth it tries to silence me
It often appears without any prior warning
It's the ghost of what was once blatant racism's past
Hidden in its new form it's hard to determine how long it will last
Don't know where to go and which way to turn
For it's hard to cross a bridge that you didn't realize was burned

I feel this way a lot, too... and I'm glad to hear others acknowledging it.

Nine lines?! Who'd have thought you could sum up something so complex in nine lines. WOW.

You've said a lot, especially in the last line.

I think racism has been led-to and taken-over by classism ... class is sometimes assumed because of race, which I might think is cool (being mostly German-worker blooded); but it leads to people expecting me to do things a great owner would do, and thus I seem to under-perform.

Thought provoking and powerful poem. Interesting perspective, too...It is much more difficult to fight the ghosts of the unseen...passive aggressive....less overt. Great job.

Racism wears many faces, unfortunately. Very Poignant poem and well written. I enjoyed it in spite of the sadness in it.
