The Hidden Closet is a Clean, Well Run Consignment Store
The Hidden Closet is a Lovely Consignment Store
Ramsey, NJ 07446
United States of America
The store is closed on Monday as and opens at 10 the rest of the week. They close at 5:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays are "consignment days". You can bring in 8 items once you've opened an account for a cost of $5.00 as a sign up fee. The clothing you bring in must be up to date, very clean and in style. Barbara, the owner, is very conscientious about what she will accept for the selling floor. She is friendly and personable so don't take offense if she turns down any of your items. She does it in a very polite way. If you decided to consign here keep in mind the consignment days get very busy and there will be lines it seems no matter what time you show up. As a consignor you will split your sales 50-50 with the shop. Your sold items are kept in a large book and you can stop in any time and check on your sales. When you're ready to collect your money Jo Ann will issue you a check. For me, I always seem to end up spending the money in the store, but that isn't a complaint, believe me. Consigning starts at 11:00 a.m.
Recently a little rewards program has been addeed. Everytime you purchase an item it is ticked off on a card. After a certain amount of purchases you get a reward. The card is yellow when you fill it up you get $20.00 worth of merchandise, a terrific deal I think!
The store is fairly small but carries quite a selection of clothing. They do not carry men's clothing but they do carry boys clothing, all sizes from Junior to plus, baby to teens. There is always a selection of super pocketbooks. They do not carry shoes. At Halloween they will carry costumes. There is a small amount of jewelry in the front check out area. Clothing s tagged with colored tags. The colors are part of a system that allows you to check for sale items. Posted on the front and back walls are signs indicating what color tags are on sale and what the discount is. It coiuld be 75%, 50% or 30% depending on the color. The clothing is always in impeccable condition and the selection is very good. You will find some excellent brands there, Bebe, Abercrombie, Ralph Lauren. During the winter the shop will carry some furs and certainly coats and jackets.
The racks run lined up front to back starting with infant and ending with the jackets and coats. Along the sides ar womens tops and sweaters to the right and suits and dresses, womens plus sizes and nightwear along the wall. The back of the shop has several dressing rooms so you can try on your selection. The dressig rooms are very clean and pretty. The very front of the store has the jewelry, accessories towards the righ corner and usually a rounder of interesting vests and jackets in the centre of the floor near the check out.
The pocketbooks are on a shelf against the wall over the suits and dresses. Jo ANn will let you know whether these are the originals or knock offs of the top brands.
The shop has trompe l'oiel ribbon painted on the walls giving the store a chi chi boutique look. You would never know you were in a consignment store from the look of the store. The window display always has lovely outfits for sale. Whats really cute is theere's usually a televisoin on behind the cuonter so you don't miss your favorite shows while you're waiting to chek out Jo Ann also puts out dishes of pretzels or candy to nibble on or to calm the customers children whie they are shopping. The Hidden Closet accepts Master card.
Because my daughter comes up from Florida to visit in the winter I will often go to the Hidden Closet to pick up winter items for the boys to wear while they are here. Then I can bring them back for resale if I want to.
So, if you're looking for bargains, good quality and a charming, friendly place to shop try the Hidden Closet. You will be very pleasantly surprised at how nice a consigment shop can be, what great prices there are, how little you will pay for items and how much you can get for your money.

The store has a new owner since April and she has really made the place look great, it has a better feel to it, and she seems to have attracted a lot more people to bring in some really terrific stuff!
