The Hidden Danger Behind Plastic Baby Bottles

Mootilda
Across America, thousands of parents have infant children. Depending on infant baby bottles to feed them, never thinking for a moment that they could be dangerous, or even deadly. Having an infant of my own, as well as a three year old daughter, I have always used plastic baby bottles, assuming they were safe and would never pose a threat. Would manufacturers ever consider using materials that would be harmful to innocent children? The truth is that there are hidden dangers, and while many parents don't know of them, it's time they find out, and possibly protect their babies from something that could potentially harm them.

In polycarbonate plastics lies a chemical called BPA, otherwise known as bis phenol A. Almost all of the baby bottles produced in the United States
hold this chemical. Prior studies have stated that dangerous amounts of bis phenol A can leak out of used baby bottles.

When tested on female mice in laboratories, noticeable damage is indicated in chromosomes, which appear not to line up as they should. If this were to happen in humans, it would cause health problems such as spontaneous abortion, genetic abnormalities, or mental retardation.

But, why aren't our children being protected?

Scientists have revealed that BPA can also cause impaired immune function, early onset of puberty, obesity, diabetes, hyperactivity, as well as brain damage, and cancer.

Although plastic industries insist that their products are safe and free of harmful chemicals, can we truly trust them? Are they being truthful, or protecting themselves financially?

So, what are parents supposed to do? It's time to research the risks involved in using plastic bottles, and find alternatives. Until further testing is done, we will never know the true extent of what plastic bottles are doing to our children. In replacing all bottles, and finding others, such as glass bottles, perhaps the manufacturers will dig deep into the dangers and find a way to create safe bottles.
