The Hidden Mickeys of Magic Kingdom's Main Street U.S.A
A Touch of Old Town America with a Historical Big-Eared Icon
Whether you're just getting to the Magic Kingdom or on you're way out, there is only street to go down en route to a day of run or a night of much needed sleep. Old town America's clothing shops and eateries transfer you back to a simpler time that you may have never even been a part of. It's an era that allowed people to be themselves and wave to one another without having to worry if the nice gesture would be returned or given back in a much more vulgar way. There's no better way to get a start or end to your day then to take a walk down the middle of Magic Kingdom's Main Street U.S.A.
My first wave of articles for Hidden Mickey's has included only rides, attractions, shows, and the like. There are plenty of HMs to be found in merchandise shops, restaurants, and even just spread out in the open areas of Magic Kingdom which will be touched upon later. That is except for Main Street which has no attractions. It is strictly shops and eateries, but it is one of the seven main sections of the Magic Kingdom so it needs to be included in this initial grouping. So the way this will be done is to take Main Street one section at a time beginning at the back by the hub in front of Cinderella Castle and moving forward towards the entrance and turnstiles.
Central Plaza
~ The wonderful Partners' statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse in the center of the hub has a HM that is really a fun one to see. Check out the ring on Walt's right hand and you'll notice it is in the perfect shape of Mickey.
~ Casey's Corner sells some of the best hot dogs around, but it also has a secret up in a third story window. You can see it from up close or from across the street by the Ice Cream Parlor. The bottom right corner of the far left window on the third story has a tri-circle Mickey head cut out of the window tint. NOTE: I have not looked for this HM in a long time, but have seen it before. Word is though that it is now gone and somehow gotten lost over the years. If anyone can confirm this, please let me know at dacox415@yahoo.com.
~ The Plaza Restaurant has a HM that is easy to spot for anyone and everyone. On the backs of the menus, there are small tri-circle Mickeys mixed into the design.
Main Street
~ Upon entering the Main Street Bakery, check out the display cabinet to your left. The top shelf has a Mickey head-shaped serving platter behind a plate.
~ The merchandise poles inside the Emporium have Mickey heads cut out up and down them.
~ The Main Street Confectionary actually has a few HMs spread around if you just take the time to look. The candy bins spread around the shop have a tri-circle Mickey head at the top part of each bin entry. All of the merchandise poles have cut out Mickey heads much like those in the Emporium.
Town Square
~ Tony's Town Square has a very cool HM that you can ask a cast member to help you find if it proves to be too difficult. Upon entering the restaurant, look to your right and you'll see a small bureau. On the bottom corner of one of the black tiles in center of the bureaus, there is a tri-circle Mickey head.
Check around the restaurant as well for other noticeable HMs such as bread rolls, cloves of garlic, and even pizzas.
~ Head into the back hallway of the Exposition Hall and you'll see a display on the left hand side showing camera equipment. The olden style camera's lenses are perfectly shaped to be Mickey's ears and his head.
In the very back area of the Exposition Hall is a small movie theater set-up with cut-outs of different Disney characters to take pictures with. A few of those characters are from the film 101 Dalmatians and you can see the tri-circle Mickey silhouette in the spots on some of the puppies.
Walt Disney World Railroad
~ Upstairs in the "ticket office," you'll find one of the Mickey-shaped padlocks that have become so famous throughout the park.
~ Looking up at the train station with your back to Main Street, check out the railings at the very top. Each little turret has a perfectly shaped tri-circle Mickey head on it.
Main Street U.S.A. is what brings all of Magic Kingdom together if you ask me because it's where your soon-to-be great day begins and your wonderful day ends. Finding HMs is a great way to pass your time if you just want to park yourself on a bench on Main Street and just relax for a little bit. Or maybe you're waiting for your food at Tony's or the Plaza Restaurant and figure you'll start looking around the room or all over your menu because you know they're somewhere nearby. Do me a favor when you're on Main Street whether you're looking for HMs or just walking down it...take your time. Let it be leisurely and just take in every moment of it.
Please feel free to let me know if there are any I've missed or that you think are truly there. Oh, and for those that are brand new to the world of Hidden Mickeys? Don't let searching for them ruin your trip to the happiest place on Earth please. Always make sure that you are taking in everything and enjoying all you can while there with friends and family. Hidden Mickeys are fun to look for and find, but there really is so much to do that you don't want to be on a wild goose chase for your entire trip.
