The Hidden Mickeys of MGM Hollywood Studios' Echo Lake

Hidden Mickeys Don't Have to Be Plentiful for Good Times

Danny Cox
Those of you that have no idea what a Hidden Mickey (HM) is need look no further then my first article which explains exactly what they are and how they came about. As you exit the backlot and step back in front of the camera, you'll probably need to dry yourself off or collect your bearings. A trip through a dangerous canyon or to the furthest reaches of space might do that to anyone. The time has come though to make your way across the park and into one of the most dangerous areas ever. There are a few places though you'll stumble across along the way and a few Hidden Mickeys to be found, but certainly not many. All of them are locations not to be missed though as you find yourself encircling MGM Hollywood Studios' Echo Lake.

The American Idol Experience

~ Quite possibly one of the hardest HMs to see period. That is also because it is not easily accessible since it is on the American Idol stage and not everyone can go up there. Look about halfway from center between the second and third lights on the gray archway over the stage to see this HM. It's a small tri-circle Mickey head that just kind of blends in and is a little hard to distinguish. Once you see it though, you always will.

Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey

~ This is not an attraction that has been around very long as it has changed themes a good number of times. Kind of upsetting that they took the original attraction called "Monster Sound Show" out of this location and got rid of it because that was one hundred times better.

No Hidden Mickeys have been found by me or anyone else I know as of yet in this show. It's kind of hard to find them though because this attraction only operates seasonally now so you may go on vacation and not even have the opportunity to check it out. If you do though and find a HM, then be sure to e-mail me at dacox415@yahoo.com.

Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza

~ No HMs here either, but it's truly a location not to be missed.

Alright, so Echo Lake isn't exactly spilling over with Hidden Mickeys or really much else to do in way of attractions and rides, but all guests need to truly not miss it. American Idol is a fantastic way to watch future stars and wannabes sing their little hearts out. The Hall of Fame Plaza is really cool to check out along with the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the Great Movie Ride because you see so much memorabilia and fantastic names. Sounds Dangerous is fun when it is operational, but it holds nothing on its predecessor. Hidden Mickeys may be few and far between in this area, but don't miss out on everything else.

Please feel free to let me know if there are any I've missed or that you think are truly there. Oh, and for those that are brand new to the world of Hidden Mickeys? Don't let searching for them ruin your trip to the happiest place on Earth please. Always make sure that you are taking in everything and enjoying all you can while there with friends and family. Hidden Mickeys are fun to look for and find, but there really is so much to do that you don't want to be on a wild goose chase for your entire trip.
