West Virginia State Fair is to be held this year August 14 - 22, and has as its featured theme "Farm Fresh Fun."
Home cooks still have time to register for the contest as the deadline is July 18, 2009, with information on entering given below.
This year the competition is sponsored by Hidden Valley Foods and is titled "Hidden Valley® Fresh Taste for the Family Contest".
The grand prize is being doubled from last year's $1000 to $2000 this year.
Create any entrée, appetizer or side dish using fresh food, wholesome ingredients and traditions and submit for your chance at West Virginia and national fame! Entrants must feature Hidden Valley® The Original Ranch® Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix in their recipes for live judging at the fair site.
Entries are judged on their fresh factor (25%), taste (40%), family appeal (20%) and ease of preparation (15%).
State Fair of West Virginia offers $200 for first-place and increases Grand Prize to $2000
First place is worth $200; second and third places are worth $100 and $50 respectively. A $2000 grand prize will be awarded to one of the first place winners among the 46 fairs. All 2009 first place winning recipes will be considered for grand prize judging and the next national winner will be announced in early 2010. The contest is open to U.S. residents 18 years or older and only one entry per person please.
Entries are judged at the fairgrounds, and for contest details and complete entry guidelines contact the State Fair of West Virginia entry office at 304-645-1090 or visit the contest section of www.wvstatefair.com, or print and mail entry to State Fair of West Virginia, PO Box 986, Lewisburg, WV 24901.
