While things appear to be a smooth transition for Audrina, drama is slowly brewing yet again for our Miss Montag. With co-worker/event planner Kimberly set to man the door and make sure things run smoothly for the opening of the new L.A. hot spot XIV; they seem excited about the event. They meet up with their bosses, founder/CEO Sam Nazarian of SBE Entertainment Group and partner Brent Bolthouse of Bolthouse Productions; the girls are basically briefed on what's expected of them for the evening's festivities. Feeling psyched, Heidi has the bright idea of inviting boyfriend Spencer, his sister Stephanie and Audrina too! Kimberly doesn't think that's wise considering that they will have a lot to do for the opening but of course Heidi's not listening. Once again she isn't thinking about the importance of what she needs to do...her job!
To understand the method to Heidi's madness is to look at key points of the MTV phenomenon. Remember in the first season when Lauren and Whitney began their internships at Teen Vogue and were set to work at the Hollywood issue release party? Well Heidi wanted Lauren to slip her and her friends in - this already a conflict of interest because this is Lauren's job and there's the possibility of her getting into trouble. She did get in trouble because not only was Lauren working and representing the magazine, she was to cover a reserved area that Heidi and the gang were seated. Lisa, her boss, gave her another chance to prove herself; Lauren was lucky.
Fast forward to season three where Heidi's job at Bolthouse was in full swing. After another heated argument with Spencer, she decided to throw herself into her work and becomes part of a project team that's setting up a new hotel and casino in Las Vegas. If things worked out and she liked the job, Heidi would have to live in Vegas to help oversee that project. Spencer got this piece of information from his sister and he high tailed it to Sin City to get his girl back with his sister in tow. Once at the business meeting that Heidi's having with her bosses, Spencer rudely interrupts wanting to speak to Heidi outside. She scolds him about pushing up on her while she's working and letting him know that this is serious business and he needs to understand that. He's not hearing her and pleads his case that he doesn't want her to move to Vegas and work; something that could move her forward in the business.
After he leaves, Heidi apologizes but Sam isn't feeling her and leaves. Brent basically tells her that she needs to re-evaluate her life and figure out what's more important. The next morning her decision was made - she chose Spencer over her personal goals. Even though she still had a job at Bolthouse, Heidi's credibility would come into question from that point on.
Now we come to the present where the grand opening of XIV is underway. Heidi and Kimberly feel accomplished for how things have turned out as they should be; they worked really hard to help make it a successful opening. Heidi wonders if it's ok that they break for a bit and Kimberly thinks so. Kimberly gets a bite to eat while Heidi gets a drink - big mistake. Spencer and the gang arrive with Audrina bringing her sister and Justin. At this point Heidi is a little drunk from a few shots of Tequila and Kimberly is concerned about that, especially since she's so loud about it and Sam is close by. Speaking of Sam, he approaches the mingling crowd and asks if Heidi or Kimberly has seen Brent and Heidi tried to keep her cool until he asks if she's still working; "Are you?" she asks surprising her boss. Spencer thinks everything's cool and asks Sam if he wants a shot. Sam lets them know that that the girls need to get back to work and leaves. So you see, Heidi wasn't thinking about the big picture, she was there to work - not play.
The next day at Bolthouse, Kimberly is called into Brent's office to discuss the XIV opening. He got a call from Sam saying that they were drinking and he wasn't very happy about it; he was a little pissed. Kimberly insists that she wasn't drinking out of respect for Brent. He asks her if Heidi was wasted and Kimberly doesn't think so; he asks that Heidi come in. Kimberly lets Heidi know she's needed. Once seated Brent cuts to the chase and lets her know about Sam's call about her drinking at the XIV opening. She thought it was ok to have a drink since everything was going fine. Brent made it a point to let her know that she wasn't supposed to be; after all she was working. To add more damage to the situation Spencer was there and that wasn't ok. He's proven to be a bad influence on Heidi when it comes to her job and Brent has told her that she needs to have that part of her life under control. He goes on to say that he's put a lot of faith in her and has fought for her many times; he was disappointed in her. He had no choice but to make his next move; she was told to collect her things - he fired Heidi.
What was Heidi to expect? You would think she learned from the Vegas incident. She tried to make justification for drinking; they worked so hard and thought it would be ok to have a drink - or three. To have her under the influence in front of Brent's partner looks bad for Brent; he can't afford his credibility to be compromised by Heidi's irresponsible actions. She needs to be more adult about things otherwise no one is going to take her professionally serious. If she plans to continue to have Spencer in her life she's going to have to put her foot down and let him know that it's important that he respects her having a job; there are going to be times where her job will have to come before him. You have to give it to her though; she swallowed that heavy pill and kept her head up as she walked out on the job she loved. Hopefully next time she'll be wiser when it comes to her priorities.
Back at home, Audrina is getting her things together for her move and Lauren checks on her and begins to help Audrina out. While she's helping, they reflect on the past couple of years on how they've been for each other through the good and bad. Lauren seems to be handling it well and although they'll miss each other Lauren tells Audrina that she's proud of her. Lauren and Lo see Audrina off and wish her the best on her new home. Lo asks Lauren if she's ok as they watch Audrina drive away with the moving truck close behind. Lauren says she is but her face says otherwise. She then tells Lo that's she's actually a little sad. They head back in the house and begin the fresh start of it being the two of them at the house. We'll see over time how much of an impact this will have on the girls; give it time to actually sink in that they no longer have a roommate living in the pool house.
