The Hillside Motel in Luray, Va., is a perfect and scenic spot to stay overnight or hang around for a few days. Situated between the Blue Ridge and Massanutten Mountains, the Hillside Motel is a sight for sore eyes and bank accounts.

Pulling into the parking lot of the Hillside Motel off a long stretch of US Highway 211 East, the motel is a few yards from a cemetery and across the street from a worn out farmhouse. The Hillside Motel is a series of joined apartment-like rooms, a shared porch and available parking outside your room.

A small hotel office is at the end of the parking lot driveway, and inside the hotel office is a friendly, warm and welcoming staff member. The gentleman who checked us in was extremely accommodating. He took the time to welcome us, chat with us about the area and direct us to the location of restaurants not too far away, as well as the location of our visiting destination.

There are 17 rooms at the Hillside Motel, with double bed, two double beds, one queen bed or two double bed and one twin bed rooms. Their website does not give rates out and asks that you call for prices, but the prices are amazingly low! We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in the middle of August for a total of $119.

Upon entering our queen bedroom, we found it to be small, cozy and clean. The room included the queen bed, air conditioning, color cable television, refrigerator, microwave, nightstands and a dresser. The bed itself was not very comfortable and the blankets were very thin, but since it was the middle of summer, that was overlooked.

The bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom area, which contained large mirror, plenty of lighting, great water pressure and lots of space.

The Hillside Motel also included an outdoor swimming pool, ice machines, soda machines and a charcoal grill picnic area.

Even though there were the basic amenities, the best feature was the serenity. Waking up in the morning and walking outside to view the beautiful mountains and breathe in the clean, fresh air was more than what I had expected coming from the big city.

I highly suggest the next time you are in the Blue Ridge Mountain or Massanutten Mountain area to organize your stay at the Hillside Motel. It is definitely worth it!
