The "Hip" Chick's Guide to Holiday Movies

Shawna Straub
I like to consider myself pretty "hip" when it comes to the holidays. I'm not Martha Stewart by any means, but I pride myself in having fun parties, great gifts, and an overall sense of Holiday flair! Part of what gets me in the festive mood is my tried and true Holiday movies. Watching these three movies in no particular order finds me ready to party, give, and receive wonderful gifts, memories, and longing for December to return as quickly as possible.

Movie #1: " The Holiday " - You just can't find a more fun loving and romantic than this. You have your girl next door meets geek turned hottie and your gorgeous Cameron Diaz meets even more gorgeous heart throb with fun music, great twists, and even a feel good serve your neighbor story mixed in. I absolutely adore this movie and always have two boxes of Kleenex nearby to handle those Christmas tears.

Movie #2: " Christmas Vacation " - This is a time honored family tradition for my brood. Every year we sit down with hot chocolate and cookies and laugh ourselves silly to Chevy Chase and his adorable family. From the cat being electrocuted by the Christmas lights, to the best display of outdoor lights to ever blind a neighbor with, this movie will keep you oh so jolly and finding yourself thankful that the drama in your home during the holidays is only a dull roar.

Movie #3: " Pretty Woman " - You might not think of this as a holiday movie but I beg to argue! Pretty Woman is what EVERY woman wants for Christmas... a happy ending. No matter what present was broken in transit, what relatives canceled at the last minute, or Christmas cards that never made it out on time, you'll always get what you really want whenever you watch "Pretty Woman." I know my holiday will be brighter as soon as I don my robe and slippers and curl up after a long day of shopping or work and enjoy Julia Roberts at her finest.

Whatever your favorite holiday movie is, be sure to watch it and make time with your family to reconnect and most importantly re-infuse yourself with some life by taking time out of the holidays to take care of you.
