City Market is a large outdoor farmer's bazaar located at the heart of River Market. Over 140 vendors pitch everything from plants, baked goods, fruits, vegetables, spices, flowers, meat and seafood. The City Market features locally grown produce and the best from the Midwest farmers. Open year round on the weekends, rain or shine, the City Market always gathers large crowds. Outdoor music and sweet treats are available to add to the fun!
Located in the square of City Market is the historic Arabia Steamboat Museum. Featuring an old side wheel steamer boat built in 1853; it had sunk into the mud in 1855. Fast forward 132 years, when it was uncovered in a field in Missouri. All of the contents and the ship itself are on display at the Arabia Steamboat museum. This fascinating look at the past is a tourist favorite her in Kansas City's River Market area.
There are lots of place to shop in the River Market area as well. The Planters Seed Co. is a popular shopping destination with many unique and unusual items as well as all gardening needs. The River Market Antique Mall is filled to the brim with interesting and unique antiques from over 100 vendors. The Mall was voted "Best Antique Shop in Kansas City" by The Pitch newspaper in 2005. Nicknamed the "Friendliest Mall in Town," it truly lives up to its name with knowledgeable staff and fun atmosphere.
The River Market also has great places to live. Lofts are a popular option, with rehabbed warehouses and office buildings in abundance. Businesses thrive in this area, and include medical doctors, local shop owners, printers, attorneys and more all calling River Market their business home.
Restaurant such as Minsky's Pizza make the River Market area home as well. Minsky's Pizza, a Kansas City favorite, does a great business! Salads, sandwiches, pasta and gourmet pizza are served here daily. Harry's Country Club is a unique and popular place that serves everything from catfish to fried bologna sandwiches.
The River Market in Kansas City has a long and rich history, and continues to thrive as a neighborhood and tourist area. Home to four parks, nature trails, and all the amenities of city life, this area continues to grow in its diversity and culture. The River Market is a great place to visit or call home!
