The History, Accounts and Testing for the Loch Ness Monster

Michael Holt
How many of you believe in such debated things as Aliens, Ghosts, or Bigfoot? How many of you know that living among us there is a very strange and debated monster? Who believes in the creature such as the Loch Ness Monster?
I will persuade you to think that the Loch Ness monster is real. I will go through the history of the Loch and the monster, the first hand accounts from people, and the facts that "Nessie" exists. I feel I am credible to the facts that I have researched and I am a firm believer that "Nessie" does exist.

First I will be explaining to you what the Loch Ness Monster is and the history of the Loch.
The Loch (Lake) is located in Loch Ness, Scotland and was formed by the moving of the earths crust 500 million years ago.
The Loch never freezes; it stays at a constant 44 degrees due to a thermo cline- which is an area of water that is gradient in temperature.
It is around twenty two and a half miles long and between one and one and a half miles wide, a depth of 754 feet, and holds 16,430,000 gallons of water.
The Loch Ness Monster is thought to be a Plesiosaur, which is an ancient marine reptile that lived during the time of the dinosaurs.

According to National Geographic, "The few times Nessie has supposedly been caught on film or by sonar soundings, it most closely resembles a plesiosaur, a long-necked, seagoing reptile that went extinct along with the terrestrial dinosaurs about 65 million years ago". Nessie is dark green and look like it is covered with a slimy substance and to be up to 50 ft long and 10 ft wide. Now, I will be telling you about the first hand accounts of people who have experienced the Monster.

The earliest account goes back to 565 AD by Saint Columba, who saw a person being buried who was believed to be killed by a beast in the Loch.
In 1650, an English writer named Richard Franck traveled to the loch and wrote of moving islands that would submerge and reemerge in the sea which looked like skin and a rough surface.
According to lochness.co.uk, "In November, 1933 Hugh Gray, a resident of Loch Ness saw, in the lake, a large creature splashing and creating a large disturbance in the center of the Loch.
Some Recent Accounts have also been recorded.

On October 15, 2006, a resident of Loch Ness by the name of Robbie Girvan saw a 4 ft neck and head rise out of the water, which was dark green and silvery colored.
According to The Scholastic Scope, in 1975, scientists took many underwater photos of what seemed to be a large swimming creature.
According to ABA Journal Robert Rines a lawyer and scientist recently snapped several pictures of Nessie's fins and flippers.
Now that I have discussed some encounters with the creature, I will explain to you the facts on why the Loch Ness monster exists.
All of the accounts I discussed are conclusive. Whether it is a scientist, a lawyer, or residents of Loch Ness, Scotland, they have all had evidence to show that Nessie exists.

Many tests have been done such as sonar testing, and strobe testing. The strobe lights are used to try and make the monster move or show signs of life. The active sonar works like a floodlight, emitting sound waves that sweep across tens or even hundreds of miles of ocean, revealing objects in their path
According to Science News a test using dolphins with cameras attached to their heads, captured images of an underwater swimming beast.
Sonar testing has been used and there have been several instances where results have come back with the image appearing to be a large Plesiosaur.
There have been thousands of reports of a large beast at Loch Ness, many from which people who are very credible and believable, because of the details in their stories
There are also Thousands of pictures that have been taken that show a large figure swimming on the surface of Loch Ness.

In conclusion, I have told you about the history of the Loch and the Monster that lives within, the first hand accounts, and the facts to support that Nessie's existence. It may have not been proven yet that the Loch Ness monster exists but I am a firm believer that it will be soon. I hope I have made you believe too.
