According to [url=http://www.ideafinder.com/history/inventions/hersheybar.com], Milton Snavely Hershey was born in 1857 and built a successful caramel company. In 1893, he was at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago where he first developed an interest in chocolate. He bought some machines and started coating his caramels in chocolate. However, the demand for chocolate was so great; he began the Hershey Chocolate Company. He sold his caramel business in 1900 for $1 million dollars.
Due to the growth of the company, he had to look for a new location. He found this location in Derry Township, Pennsylvania.
Milton recognized that happy employees are more productive. Thus, he treated his employees fairly and gave them an enjoyable living atmosphere.
Over the course of growing his company, he added several products to the line. They are:
1905 - Hershey's Kiss
1908 - Hershey's Milk Chocolate with Almonds Bar
1971 - HERSHEY'S SPECIAL Dark Chocolate Bar
1980 - Big Block/King Size Chocolate Bars
1980 - Hershey's Milk Chocolate with Almonds Bar
1994 - Hershey's Cookies 'N' Cream Bar
2004 - Limited Edition Bars in White Chocolate with Almonds
In 1918 he found that he wanted to ensure that his company would live a long life. Ownership of the Hershey Company along with his personal wealth was put into trust for the Hershey Industrial School. Although Milton Hershey died in 1945, his company still lives.
The name of the company today is the Hershey Foods Corporation.
Our chocolate craving can be met thanks to Milton Hershey recognizing the people's desire for chocolate over 100 years ago.
