The History of Kansas City Chiefs QBs

J. R. Steele
The Kansas City Chiefs began their existence as a professional sports franchise as the Dallas Texans in the American Football League (AFL). The move from Dallas, TX to Kansas City, MO prompted a name change, but it did not change the mission. Championship football is, and always has been, the goal of this model organization. When the American Football League (AFL) merged with the National Football League (NFL), this franchise was one of the gems of the merger and the starting quarterback at that time, Len Dawson, was one of the legends of the game. The Kansas City Chiefs won the last game ever played by the AFL when they beat the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV. Len Dawson was the Super Bowl MVP that year as he led his team to victory and into a new era of football. Len Dawson set the standard of this key position for the franchise, and his legacy continues. Here is a list of the men that have quarterback'd this legendary franchise from then until now:

* Cotton Davidson (1960 - 1962)
* Len Dawson (1962 - 1975)
* Mike Livingston (1968 - 1979)
* Steve Fuller (1979 - 1982)
* Bill Kenney (1980 -88)
* Todd Blackledge (1983 - 1987)
* Frank Seurer (1986 - 1987)
* Matt Stevens (1987)
* Steve DeBerg (1988 - 1991)
* Steve Pelluer (1989 - 1991)
* Ron Jaworski (1989)
* Dave Krieg (1992 - 1993)
* Joe Montana (1993 - 1994)
* Steve Bono (1994 - 1996)
* Rich Gannon (1995 - 1998)
* Elvis Grbac (1997 - 2000)
* Warren Moon (1999 - 2000)
* Trent Green (2001 - 2006)
* Damon Huard (2004 - 2008)
* Brodie Croyle (2006 - Present)
* Tyler Thigpen (2007 - Present)
* Ingle Martin (2008 - Present)
* Matt Cassel (2009 - Present)

Although this franchise has fallen on some hard times recently, the future looks bright as they have a lot of good young talent. Additionally, there is a new, talented sherriff in town charged with getting the most out of this young team. Todd Haley accepted the head coaching position in February, 2009. With new General Manager Scott Pioli on board as well, the Kansas City Chiefs' sparkling new brain trust drafted wisely. Only time will tell if the trades, draft and free agent signings were the right moves. But, it sure looks like the football fans in Kansas City will be in for a treat this season.
