"The Hock Shop"
No money in your pocket
Take something and hock it.
Tv or rifle or vcr.
Get one-tenth the value
Dream on a star
Heat blisters the tar
Get in the car
The sign reads,
"We Give Small Loans"
You hurt in your bones.
Get the kids ice-cream cones.
Maybe a job
Another day.
Get back your tv
If you had the cash.
For fifty cents
You could get some bread,
Get the kids fed.
Your heart is lead.
Five-dollars for gas,
It can't last.
No gas in the car
Can't drive far.
Maybe tomorrow
there's something better
Check in a letter
A sunray, you say,
Payday,
Dream away.

Post a CommentThanks for all the comments. Yes, it is a good place to buy and sell. I bought my daughter's 12 string straight guitar for $75 at a hock shop in Maryland in the early 80's :)
Great Article! You can also go there to track down "Your" stolen goods, etc! I Did! We have bought a couple of things at Pawn Shops also! Thanks! :)
Bought my very first guitar in one in Duluth back in 1966. Still can't walk by one without stopping to check out what's in the window!
I'm with you on this, Rue. Cheers.
