After a recent accident, I was left with no alternative . I had to visit the Hocking Valley Community Hospital, in Logan Ohio. I arrived at the emergency room at eleven in the evening. I signed in, and sat down in the waiting area. I waited for one hour and fifteen minutes before I was admitted for treatment. I knew I would be waiting for a while, it is always like that at any emergency care room. I asked how many patients were before me, and I learned four persons were receiving treatment before I could be seen.

I waited in pain, with three broken bones until three am before I was taken into the examining room. I was given x rays, and eventually I was given an elastic bandage. The doctor of the emergency unit was inattentive, and could not read x rays. My hand was bandaged so tightly my fingers turned blue within six hours of arriving at home. I had to fix it myself. Additionally I was in some pain, obviously but I was not prescribed any pain medication.

I have spoken to numerous Logan residents. Nearly everyone travels to Lancaster Ohio for medical treatment. The hospital facilities are superior to what is available in Logan. When it was all said and done, I waited for six hours to get my hand bandaged. The bills for this minor service are coming in every other day, So far, for a broken arm and wrist my visit to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital has cost me over eight hundred dollars and counting! Is that crazy? I was given maybe ten minutes worth of treatment, and I am positive I will have additional bills from this trip to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan, Ohio. In my opinion I would say I had less than desirable care and treatment at this hospital, the attending doctor was not attentive , and I was disappointed by the entire experience. Not to mention, the lack of pain management techniques applied by the staff of this hospital.

In the region you will be better off to travel to Lancaster Ohio if you can wait. Of course if it is an absolute emergency, you really have no alternative to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital. I would certainly recommend the Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio over the Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan, based upon my experiences as of recent.

I have a little experience with a lot of things, but not a lot of experience with little things. I'm a thirty-one year old aspiring aspirer from a small town in southeastern Ohio.  View profile

The post just below this did not transfer correctly. Should read: the surgeon proposed surgery for my broken leg to be in 5 days. No, there was not a wedding proposal!! :-)

I have also had a very negative Emergency Room experience. After waiting over 1 hour with an obviously broken le with no existing patients in the ER, I had to beg for simply an x-ray NOW, and made a scene in the ER. When they finally did do the x-ray, then they were very kind and provided good care. The surgeon proposed 5 days later, and when I asked the nurse moments later why we were waiting, I learned that "oh that's the day he operates every week." I demanded immediate transfer to a hospital in Columbus to continue care, and had major surgery within hours. There is at least one male RN in the ER who is excellent, competent and contributes a great deal to our community. It is a great loss to have such overall marginal care here in this lovely town.

I agree, the hospital staff are rude and nasty, I just took my 13 yr old daughter there and the doctor was so mean and nasty I am reporting him. Theres no reason for the way he acted. I know alot of ppl have told me as well to just go to lancaster too. I was diagnosed once for allergies, and the next day went to fairfeild and here I actually had pnemonia and bronchitis. And my uncle diagnosed with gas and went to fairfeild and it was colen cancer. That place is a joke!!

I THINK THIS HOSPITAL IS A GOOD ONE I HAVE SEEN THE ER DOC'S AND RN'S DO A GREAT JOB IN SAVING PEOPLE. THERE IS SO MUCH THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE DON'T SEE. IAM SORRY IF YOU FEEL THAT WAY, BUT HVCH IS GROWING AND DOING A GOOD JOB, COME AND SEE WHAT NEW THINGS WE HAVE TO OFFER NOW.

I'm from Logan, Ohio..and when I broke my wrist, my mom told me to suck it up and drove me to Lancaster, because she was afraid that Hocking Valley Community Hospital would miss the fracture.

Many times, we drove to fairfield medical center for better care.

Also, Hocking Valley Community Hospital billed the wrong insurance company when I had a car accident. When I pointed this out to them, they told me that my regular health insurance would have to first catch the mistake, and then fight for reimbursement from my car insurance company.

Because they billed the wrong insurance, they were paid a discounted amount, and I was left to pay several hundred dollars in petty bills that piled up, as a result. $40 from an xray, $110 for the ER visit..etc. Instead of telling me that my insurance company had never been re-billed for the amounts, and instead of sending a bill to ME, they sent the bills directly to collections.
