The Holiday Blues

Christmas Blues or Depression

writershirley
It is a well known fact that during Christmas more people become depressed and suffer from what is called "The Holiday Blues"! If you find yourself feeling down and blue you are just one of the one million people who suffer this feeling during Christmas. Holiday blues, your feelings, are common so don't be afraid to express yourself to friends and family during this time. it is said that during the holiday more suicides are committed, crimes, and longer periods of depression are the feelings of many people. It is un-determined why so many people are having this problem. There is no rule of thumb that will guide you through these days.

There is hope and methods to help you overcome your feelings. One of the best methods prescribed is being with friends and family. Those who are away from home need to make contact with others in their community so that they will not feel so alone. That feeling of loneliness can lead to depression. You need to guard against being lonely in order to prevent a deep seated feeling of depression. Many young people who are away from home who are perhaps in college, on work assignments, or in the military are inclined to get "The Holiday Blues." We can help each other by being considerate of one another's feelings and by trying to provide a genuine feeling towards all men in this situation. Christmas is a time to feel joyous not a time to feel lonely.

Often we forget the true purpose behind Christmas, instead we focus on gift buying, personal gains, and how quickly we can get over the season. Many times women get focus on gift buying, personal gains, and how quickly we can get over the season. Many times women get bogged down trying to cook, shop, be a driver for their children in the neighborhood children as well. You can overwork yourself to the point of exhaustion and not really enjoy the true spirit of Christmas. Remember the shepherds were resting in the fields with their flock of sheep when the Angels came and sang to them about the birth of Jesus. The shepherds had not a care in the world that night. This means they were not shopping, hunting, tring to provide for their family, nor were they worried about where the next meal would come from. Instead, the shepherds were relaxing with his sheep when the Angels started singing about the birth of Jesus. We are not supposed to worry about tomorrow but just live our life today in a manner that would be suited for our Lord. In other words do not worry about where your food, shelter and personal needs will come from but instead trust the Lord.

All too often you not have faith that Jesus will be with us and provide for us. Instead we worry, feel sorry for ourselves, and go into a deep depression. One little word can hlep you during this season and that word is Joy. Joy you say, "explain how to put that into your life."

1. J- put Jesus first in your life.
2. O-put others in your life second.
3. Y-yourself, it may be hard for you to think about it this way but you should consider yourself last and you will find that you are first.

When you put Jesus in your life and your heart and your mind all things will seem very small. If you truly have faith. Then Jesus will take hold of your life, helping you through, the Christmas Blues and all other problems. While you are getting your help in Jesus by your faith in believing, remember there are others in your life, who may not always have the same strength that you do. You need to be aware of those around you who are weaker, or perhaps just do not understand, and help them during this holiday season. Finally, take a good look at yourself, what do you expect out of life, what do you think life should bring to you? In order to be happy, you ned to know, what is the real important things in your life. Material things, money, high position, fame, and other worldly items will not bring you happiness.

True happiness is found in love, giving, forgiving, and most of all in the belief that Jesus will stay with you always. This is my Christmas prayer this year, to my family, my friends, and all of you. God Bless
