The Holiday Farmer's Market in New Castle, Delaware

There Are Lots of Good Buys and Great Prices to Be Found this Time of Year at the New Castle Farmer's Market

Jay Braun
If you are looking for things for your holiday dinner at a good price there are three places in the market that will be a great help. Stoltzfus' Amish Market is the first one that I will discuss. They have all the things that a typical meat department would have from steaks, ribs, chops, sausage and chicken to pre-smoked turkeys available for sale. They also sell a variety of cold cuts and cheeses available for party trays. In addition to meats they also sell a large variety of baked goods like donuts, cakes, pies, and candies. I have been food from there as long as I can remember and I have always found it of the utmost quality. They do not use any preservatives in their meats which enhances its flavor I think.

If you want seafood for a party you can find just about every variety available at Alex's Seafood. They also have a butcher shop at another section of the market, but their meats are not as good as Stoltzfus'. They usually have a good amount of party trays like shrimp cocktail and crab legs available this time of the year for people. They also have a restaurant that you can sit down in if you want to eat a meal or have a beer while they are getting your order together.

While you are there you can also find some gifts to buy people. There are a variety of shops that you can pick up things from perfume and cosmetics, leather goods, and auto accessories. The Fashion Link Jewelry store has a wide variety of gold and silver jewelry available. In addition to this they also offer various repair services and special orders. I have always found the service and prices to be great and have bought many things from them. The owner Jimmy is always there and is a really nice guy.

If you know someone who is really into motorcycles then Mary's Bargain Barn is probably the place to go to find a gift for them. They sell a variety of biker merchandise. They have various jackets, boots, chaps and Harley-Davidson themed shirts. They also sell some motorcycle parts for the do it yourself motorcycle mechanic. They can be a bit expensive but you will find some pretty good deals there this time of the year.

If you are hungry while you are shopping there are quite a few places that you can have something to eat when you are shopping. As I mentioned earlier Alex's has a full service restaurant and bar. They also have vendors that sell things like pretzels, donuts, hoagies and ice cream. There is a pretty good Mexican Restaurant called Martha's cantina. They have good prices and pretty good food. Mama Gina's Pizza offers traditional Italian style pizzas. The pizza is amongst the best in the area and has pretty good prices. The best place to eat there is Yong's Restaurant. They have a variety of meals there from hot dogs and hamburgers to short ribs and meatloaf. This is probably the most reasonably priced and best quality independent restaurant in the area. I usually eat there once per week. They are open while the market is open and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Location, hours, number, website

The New Castle Farmer's Market has a lot of things to offer a shopper and even more during the holidays. I would recommend anyone interested in finding a good deal visit them. There is also no sales tax in the state of Delaware. This can probably save the average person quite a few dollars off of their holiday spending if you live in a surrounding state that has sales tax. I have included the extended hours and phone numbers below for reference.
