1. The Holy Spirit searches the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10, "But God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God."
2. The Holy Spirit can speak. Revelation 2:7, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God."
3. The Holy Spirit can cry out. Galatians 4:6, "Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, and Father."
4. The Holy Spirit intercedes. Romans 8:26, "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express."
5. The Holy Spirit testifies. John 15:26, "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me."
6. The Holy Spirit teaches. John 14:26, "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
7. The Holy Spirit leads and directs. Romans 8:14, "Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
8. The Holy Spirit commands, Acts 16:6-7, "Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to."
9. The Holy Spirit calls men to work and gives them tasks. Acts 13:2, "While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
10. The Holy Spirit proceeds on the mission to which He is sent. John 15:26, "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me."
11. The Holy Spirit can be grieved. Isaiah 63:10, "Yet they rebelled
and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them."
12. The Holy Spirit can be insulted. Hebrews 10:29, "How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?"
13. The Holy Spirit can be lied to. Acts 5:3, "Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?"
14. The Holy Spirit can be blasphemed. Matthew 12:31-32, "And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
We believe that He is a Person because He possesses all the necessary qualities of intellect, emotion, will, knowledge and actions. Let us never insult him by calling the Spirit "it" but always honor Him properly. May we make much of the Companionship of the Living Person, the Holy Spirit.
