The Holy Spirit and Word of God Working Together as One

Naomi  Cassata
How many times have we ritually pulled out our Bibles out of duty rather than anticipation of what God wants to speak to us? I am the first to raise my hand. Many times, I have thumbed through the books of my Bible trying to find something to catch my interest rather than acknowledging the treasure that is in my hands.

Recently, during prayer I had been praying about God's will for my life and my family's life. I know God has a plan for those that love Him. In the book of Psalm (139:16), we can read how even before we were born into the world, God saw us unformed. Your eyes saw my unformed body. It even goes on to say that our lives are written in a book. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. God knows how our lives will turn out before we even came into the world. What a wonderful thought to know that God has written our story before we were even thought of by our parents. We read in Jeremiah 29:11 that God has plans for us. Those plans are for our good. Never think God intends evil to happen to any of God's children.

While praying, the Holy Spirit reminded me that in order to know the will of God for our lives, we must know His word. Before Jesus left the earth he told his disciples that he would send a helper. The Holy Spirit is our helper. He helps us to live lives pleasing to God by convicting, opening our understanding of scripture and speaking to our hearts. Without him, we could not live for God.

The second thing I was reminded of during my prayer was the Word of God. The word of God is equally as important as the Spirit. These two work together building our spirit up. These are the only two things that we have on earth. God is in Heaven and Jesus is at His right hand. The Holy Spirit and Scriptures (God's Word) is what we have to instruct, teach and lead us. Hold on to these tightly.

You will find some very insightful words in (Proverbs 4:20-22) My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Our focus should be on what the Bible says. The advice of others can be nice, but it must line up with God's word.

(v. 21) Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart;
When you find a promise in the Bible, hold on to it. Do not let doubt take it from you. Let it be planted into your heart until you see it come to pass.

(v. 22) For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
His word is alive. It brings results into the natural, but we must keep them in the forefront of our focus.
