I wasn't really expecting much from this movie because 1) it starred Paris Hilton and 2) the movie got terrible reviews. Let me just say that I was definitely surprised by the movie. I loved it. Yep, I might even buy it since I am sure I can find it on clearance very soon. Seriously though, I really did enjoy the movie. Yes the plot is a predictable "ugly duckling turns into a swan" story but never the less, still enjoyable.
The main reason I rented the movie is because I am a big fan of Joel David Moore every since I watched Spiral. If you haven't seen Spiral yet, go rent it, excellent thriller. But anyway, I gave the movie a chance and I am glad I did. Joel was excellent as always. He does do adorable geek quite impressively. I was also impressed by Christine Lakin's acting fortitude. The make-up people made her quite hideous. I can't imagine many actresses would put up with that. The one big surprise of the movie was Paris Hilton. I actually thought she was quite good in it. When compared to other blondes (Jessica Simpson), Paris is actually very good. Yeah she isn't Emmy material but she can actually deliver her lines without me cringing.
What really made the movie was Joel David Moore. He really had me laughing throughout the entire movie. My blockbuster DVD had an extra feature of Paris giving Joel a make-over. I loved it. I feel like I am going to be burned at the stake if I admit this but oh well here goes, I am now a Paris Hilton fan. Yep, she was good in the movie and funny in the make-over feature. I get the impression that there is more to Paris then just all the bad publicity and dumb blonde jokes.
All I can say is if you like romantic comedies, give The Hottie & The Nottie a chance. I give the movie 5 out of 5 stars. You rock Joel David Moore.
