My favorite's called, "House of Candles," located on route 715 in Henryville PA. It boasts having the largest homemade candle in PA. "House of Candles," is a family owned retail store, second generation and still going full force. It originated in the kitchen of, Edwin Coover, and soon expanded to this beautiful country setting.
As soon as you stroll through the front door after admiring an antique car parked to the side and several other country antiques, you're engulfed by the wonderful fragrance of an assortment of candles, not overpowering but welcoming. You'll explore several rooms laid out on three levels filled with candles, lamps, burners and other accessories, including some country craft. On the lower level you'll view big vats of melted candle wax behind a glass counter, just like an ice cream counter. Here you can see a candle making demonstration. Custom candles can be made to your liking, including size, color and scent. "House of Candles," still makes the vast majority of candles available to you. Candles can be ordered online by going to www.houseofcandles.com.
On the lower level you'll have a wonderful photo opportunity when you view the largest homemade candle in PA. The candle's adorned with news clippings sharing the history of, "House of Candles."
This candle shop's set in a natural splendor, cradled by trees, set alongside a country road. You can take a simple stroll around, or go downhill behind the store and you'll find a small farm setting with a ménage of animals. Exotic colored roosters, a miniature horse and her fowl, and goats will greet you. This is another great photo opportunity for tourists and residents to capture for their memories.
I'm sure you won't be able to leave without buying at least one homemade tart, and candle lovers can't help but return again and again to stock up. Now that holiday shopping season has arrived, you'll find wonderful gifts here for both family and friends.
I do believe the antique car's here to amuse men who grow weary of exploring all the many crooks and cranny's in the store.
"House of Candles," is open Monday through Thursday 9 to 5, and Friday and Saturday 9 to 7, closed on Sundays. Take a trip down the country road, you won't be disappointed.
