The House on the Hill: a Halloween Poem

Rex Banner
What do you know of the house on the hill

The stranger questioned me

It's empty, and old and full of bats

But I've never gone to see

He laughed and said he'd take me there

If I promised not to scream

Alright, I said I'll tag along

After all, it's Halloween

We walked along the rocky trail

For hours and hours it seemed

Until we made it to the stoop

It was a frightful scene

I hesitated at the door

But no cowardice for me

Into the entry way we stepped

The dust rose up like steam

I turned to ask a question

The stranger was nowhere to be seen

And then a demon floated by

My bowels they turned to cream

I tried to open up the door

But the knob was broke off clean

The house was near completely dark

One solar ray did gleam

It shined onto a leather book

The surface completely clean

The cover flew open to a page

I wished it were a dream

It said death to all who enter here

In your veins our spawn will teem
