The Howling Men of Guantanamo Bay: Is Obama in the Twilight Zone?

Marty K.
Barack Obama, in his first few days of office, has come out swinging with an effort to release the detainees in the Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp. These men include a lot of dangerous and violent terrorists. Wikipedia gives us an example of a few of these unsavory characters:

"David Hicks was found guilty under retrospective legislation introduced in 2006 of providing material support to terrorists in 2001.

Salim Hamdan took a job as chauffeur driving Osama bin Laden.

Ali al-Bahlul made a video celebrating the attack on the USS Cole."

In addition, Pam Hess of the Associated Press writes, "A Saudi militant who was released from Guantanamo Bay after six years of confinement is now a top figure in the Yemeni branch of al-Qaida, a U.S. counterterrorism official confirmed..."

I can't help but wonder why Obama would make this one of his priorities during the initial days of his Presidency. He appears to manifest sympathy for our enemy combatants, paramount over many other concerns. He has also expressed little if any regard for those feeling uncomfortable about releasing the detainees.

This brings to mind an old Twilight Zone episode called, "The Howling Man." Wikipedia explains the synopsis of this intriguing story as follows:

"While on a walking trip through post-World War I Europe, David Ellington becomes lost, is drenched by rain and seeks shelter in a nearby castle.

In the bowels of the castle he finds a bedraggled, but apparently cultured and intelligent man in a cell. The man claims to be a prisoner of an insane religious order, locked up because he kissed his sweetheart.

Brother Jerome explains that the prisoner is not a man, but rather the devil himself. He has been locked up in the room using the "Staff of Truth" to bar the door. He came to the village to corrupt it, but Jerome recognized him for what he was and imprisoned him.... Ellington becomes convinced that Jerome is insane.

Ellington waits until his guard falls asleep and creeps down to the cell. He removes the staff barring the cell door and releases the prisoner. When the prisoner exits the cell, he pins Ellington to the floor and begins to change, taking on the appearance of the devil with each step before departing the castle in a plume of smoke.

Jerome finds the collapsed Ellingtonand sadly explains that the inability to recognize the devil has always been man's great weakness."

The story ended, but I shudder to think of the destruction that devil must have brought upon the world when he was released.

I am also apprehensive about Obama's agenda, and his questionable ability to recognize the devils we presently have locked up. Has he overcome man's great weakness and does he realize the devastation these men could cause if the "Staff of Truth" barring the door at Guantanamo Bay is removed?

Is Barack Hussein Obama in the Twilight Zone and are others in there with him? Are he and his followers living in the real world, or are they in a dimension of imagination?

As Obi-Wan would say, "I have a bad feeling about this."

Thought-provoking. I like the innovative way you brought in the Twilight Zone episode to explain your ideas.
