The HTC and Google Partnership

PB
Google and HTC, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, collaborated together to manufacture the Google Phone (aka T-Mobile G1). Since Google specializes in software and online services, they needed to partner with a company that specializes in hardware in order to create a Smartphone. Google developed the operating system (Android) while HTC designed the hardware for the OS to operate on.

This partnership is a critical strategic alliance for both organizations. Google is always looking to diversify its reputation and be something more than a software company. The G1 provides an opportunity to make Google's entrance in the portable device market.

Likewise, HTC is trying to establish some recognition for their devices. Usually after HTC manufactures mobile devices the retailer with label the product under their brand name. Over one sixth of all smart phones in the United States were manufactured by HTC in the early half of this year, yet few people are aware of this fact. The new Google phone will be a revolutionary product that HTC will pioneer and they want to be known for doing it. By establishing this reputation in the industry, there will be some sort of prestige attached to the HTC brand making them a more viable company in the future.

Working side by side, they will try to establish a strong market presence and compete with the Voyager and the iPhone.
