The Huge Umbrella

Mario V. Farina

The rain is really coming down
on all the streets around the town,
and many stand beneath a tree
except for those who carry one.

There might be rain upon the porch,
there might be rain upon the roof,
there might be more upon the shed,
but there is something else that's true,
when it is fully blossomed out,
there would be none upon your head.

Now, let it rain and let it pour,
we don't really care.
There's a huge umbrella here
that's large enough to share.

It's large enough to cover two,
and in a pinch, it could be three.
Of course it there is only one.
The covering up is easily done.

Wherever you should chance to go
by car, or ship, or train, or plane,
be sure to always carry one
to shelter you from sudden rain.

Though skies might quickly darken,
there's no reason to fuss and fret
You'll never need to worry;
you'll never once get wet.

The weather is not always clear
at certain times within the year,
but there is nothing you should dread
if you always keep one waiting near.

A shower of rain is a shower of luck
should we simply shift our view.
'Tis a motto we can live by,
from first we say bon jour,
until we bid the world adieu.
