The Human Experience

Dee Davis
Being Black isn't just an American experience.

Being Black is a human experience.

America defines Black for the world.

Do not let America define Black for you.

The world looks to America to understand the Black People.

Yet it's defined by the media; a selected few.

But Blacks in America and around the world can not identify,

With the media's example of what Black is.

Don't let America or the Media define Black for you.

There are great examples of Blacks around us.

And role models of Blacks around the world.

Today there is a thirst among the youth for good role models.

The role model is within.

Frederick Douglas wrote about being Black in America.

Sojourner Truth spoke about it.

Marcus brought awareness to the cause.

Martin envisioned it.

Mandela attained it.

Marley sang about it.

Cosby performed it.

Obama is living it.

God created it.

They were all people living the human experience

A part of God's design.

Very deep and thought provocing poem. We should not, any of us, let the media define us. Look at how they depict women, Christians, young people and old people alike. They are polically biased and they sensationalize everything "to sell newspapers." The stereostypes that they create are just not rooted in reality. I just don't buy their fantasy world.
