"The Hunger Games" is a futuristic tale about a girl, Katniss Everdeen, who takes her sister's place in a tournament where children fight to the death. Find out who will portray the characters in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" before it hits theaters March 23, 2012.
The Hunger Games Cast
Critics have already compared "The Hunger Games" series to "Twilight" and are hoping that the franchise will achieve the same level of success. Get to know the cast before they skyrocket to fame just like Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner did.
Katniss Everdeen
Jennifer Lawrence has landed the coveted lead role of Katniss Everdeen in Gary Ross' adaptation of "The Hunger Games." The 20-year-old actress received an Oscar nomination for her role in "Winter's Bone."
Peeta Mellark
Peeta Mellark, Katniss' love interest, will be played by 18-year-old Josh Hutcherson. Hutcherson has been acting ever since he was 9 and you may know him from the indie flick "The Kids Are All Right" and for his lead role in 2007's "Bridge to Terabithia."
Gale Hawthorne
Liam Hemsworth will be playing Katniss' childhood friend Gale. You probably remember him from "The Last Song" or you know him as Miley Cyrus' on-again-off-again boyfriend. Fans will definitely swoon over Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. The Peeta vs. Gale debate may be the new Team Jacob vs. Team Edward.
Haymitch Abernathy
Woody Harrelson will portray Katniss and Peeta's mentor. Haymich was the victor for District 12 at the 50th Hunger Games. He also has a bit of a drinking problem and I'm sure Harrelson will be outrageous and funny.
President Snow
The legendary Donald Sutherland has joined the cast of "The Hunger Games." He will play the terrifying President Snow, the main antagonist and leader of Panem.
Caesar Flickerman
Stanley Tucci will portray the Hunger Games host Caesar Flickerman. Flickerman is known for helping tributes in Games. This will be a busy year for Stanley Tucci. He also has 3 other films in the works for 2012.
Cinna
Rocker Lenny Kravitz will play Cinna, Peeta and Katniss' Capitol appointed stylist. This isn't Lenny Kravitz's first time on the big screen. He was also in "Precioius."
Effie Trinket
Elizabeth Banks, known for her roles in "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Wet Hot American Summer," will play the handler that Capitol assigned to advise Katniss and Peeta as they prep for the Hunger Games.
