The Hustle

(What People Do to Make it Everyday)

" Another day, another dollar," is the motto of a lot of people today. It is the creed of blue collar workers to street go-getters. Life is a non-stop, relentless beast and if you let it beat up on you, it can destroy you. In the end, you must learn to be just as non-stop, just as relentless.

I'm no stranger to this struggle. It seems like I work just enough to be broke at the end of the week. I work a forty hour job that I don't like anymore, thanks to beauracracy. We used to have a good management team until new managers came in and messed everything up. Everybody literally counts down the time until they can go home. I was on the fast track to management, at least that is what I was told. Now I am just waiting for winter semester at school to begin so I can get a degree and get real job that I like.

So to combat all of the non-progress that I'm making, I've been hustling. I'm no drug-dealer. When I say hustle, I mean doing whatever you can legally to get a dollar. This guy at my job sells cd's. I made a deal to sell them to my friends and we'd split the profit down the middle. I even rapped on a track with him so I could tell my people that I was on it and they should get it. To this day, I have sold 1 cd, so i know that is not my best hustle.

Next, I went to my brother and bribed him into giving me money. I don't think he wanted to do it, but by time I called my mother to make him do it, he didn't really have a chance. He gave me thirty dollars. Not only that but I had to spend five dollars in gas to go and get it. So in reality, he only gave me twenty five dollars. I was out two hundred and that was the best he could do. So that hustle was better than the last, but that wasn't getting it.

Thank God for the dollar store though. I bought hot dogs, and though they are not the quality kind, they are edible. I bought juice and snacks. All I spent was fifteen dollars. It was great and payday was just around the corner. I felt so overjoyed that my hustling had sustained me for a week. With real money coming in in a couple of days, I would be straight. Everything was back to normal until I had to pay rent. Guess it's back to the hustle.
