The Idea of Parallel Dimensions and Universes

Our Lives Distorted and Changed by Simple Decisions

Robert Guinn
Often times we wonder and ask ourselves the age old question "What if?" What if you would have taken the subway instead of walking? What if you were to turn left instead of right? What if you were on flight 93 on September 11, 2001? These questions may come as a relief when we find the answer, but many times they appear as a mystery or a disappointment. What if you would have chosen the winning lotto numbers last week? How would that have affected your life? Well according to some scientist, the "What if" question is not there, because all realities are supposed to exist in a parallel dimension.

A parallel dimension is a place where a universe will exist, but possibly not in the same way as ours. In one parallel dimension there may be no tangible matter, where as in another our world is reflected as the same, the only difference is, Napoleon won the battle of Waterloo, or the British retained control of the American colonies, or simply, you just may not exists.

The idea about these so called parallel dimensions or universes came about in the 1920s. Scientist were attempting to pinpoint the exact locations of particles within matter when they found a horrible secret. Particles had no definite location, rather they would appear and disappear in subtle but different locations, and in many instances they would exist in two places at once. It's impossible to exists in two places at once right, or is it?

To explain the particle phenomenon scientist had to consider the fact that there could possibly be other dimensions. The scientific community had long heard ghost stories and mystics talk about other realms where ghost, spirits and demons dwell and they had never wanted to be a part of that "nonsense" but they could not deny the evidence before them, there had to be other dimensions where parallel versions of these particles existed, but how could they travel between these universes?

We think of our world as having the typical 3 dimensions. We move up and down, left and right, and forwards and backwards. But there are actually many other dimensions around us. They may be small, so small you can't see, but they are there. For instance, Time is considered the "4th dimension" and obviously you can't see time, only track it with a clock, or stop watch. It is through these small dimensions that the particles were jumping and existing simultaneously. Once this was proven, then it became more and more apparent that the existence of other dimensions, parallel universes did in fact exists.

Each decision you make can actually influence the creation or expansion of one of theses alternate realities. You may get up in the morning get dressed and ask yourself "Coffee or Orange Juice for breakfast" you chooses Orange Juice, then go to work. You then go to an important meeting with company executives, give an awesome presentation, and get promoted. The promotion leads to more job opportunities with a higher paying carrier, and now your life is on the fast track!

Now it's time for the "What if?" question. What if you chose coffee? You go to drink it, it's too hot and you spill the coffee on your outfit you were planning to wear to this important meeting. You rush to change clothes, and find a generic substitute outfit, then rush off to work. You're 10 minuets late getting to the meeting because of this mornings incident, and the boss is angry about this point. Now without the right outfit, 10 minuets behind schedule, and the boss breathing down your neck you deliver an average presentation. You return to work no worse for wear, but without a promotion, a new job opportunity, or new life.

So there we see an example of how differently a life could work out just because of beverage choice in the morning. All in all it's an interesting thought, that there are other dimensions, other universes where our lives are radically different. In one place you may be yourself, exactly the same, or in another, you could be president, a soldier, a famous writer, or a psychotic killer, the possibilities are endless.

The concept is simple yet deep. Each and every decisions you make can influence the decisions and outcome of not only your life, but the lives of an infinite number of people in an infinite number of universes all connected to you. Just think about this next time your driving and avoid an accident, or order takeout, or even something as simple as what time you get up in the morning
