The Idea of Penny Millions and How it Has Changed the Way I Think About Money

Penelope Rain
We've been told all of our lives that money doesn't grow on trees, and it's illegal to make it ourselves. So, what can we do about all our debt when we struggle just to make ends meet working a full time job? Well, first, we quit spending more than what we're bringing in, but then we do Penny Millions!

The idea behind Penny Millions is starting out with absolutely nothing and then ending up with a million dollars. It isn't' a get-rich-quick scheme or a pyramid scheme, and anyone can do it, even children. It is a commitment, however, that involves creative thinking, a little will power, and a desire to make your life better. It is a step-by-step process.

To begin, you look for change in the parking lot or on the sidewalk. The idea is to start with a penny, then double it. You do that to get to each step. Your first penny is the first step, of course. The second step is 2 pennies. The third step is 4 pennies, and so on. The first few steps are easiest obtained by finding loose change the same way you found your first penny. When you begin to move forward in steps is when the creative thinking comes in. You invest your money into something that will bring you more profit. For example, taking $5.00 and buying a case of Coca-Cola cans, and selling each can for a profit. Let's say you buy a case of 24 cans for $5.00. You've paid about $0.20 per can. Now resell each can for $.50 and you have more than doubled your money (from $5.00 to $12.00), and moved to the next step. There is a catch, however. You can't make your money doing something you've done before. So, if you are an electrician, you can't wire someone's house and count that. The reason for this rule is because we've done this line of work before and it didn't get us to the type of living we want. If we don't' think "outside the box" of how we make money, then its easy to fall back into our old ways and never move forward. Bear in mind, however, that the Penny Millions concept is to go along with your job. Don't quit your day job! Penny Millions is not to replace your current income. The idea behind it is to help you rethink, reshape, and enhance the way you think about money.

There are other rules to the concept, but they can be changed at will. The rules, however, were established to help overcome obstacles in one way or another, so keeping as many in place as possible is the best idea.

I've been doing Penny Millions for a few months now and I'm excited about the results. I'm nowhere near my million yet, but I have reached several goals, which have kept me motivated to keep going. I changed one of the major rules to better suit my needs. Instead of going and going until I reach a million dollars, I've made several smaller goals. I want to pay off my debt, so the amounts of those debts times 2 are my goals. For example, I had a bill for $200.00. My first goal was $400.00. I used $200.00 to pay off that debt, with $200 left over so I wouldn't have to start from scratch again.

I've also given myself permission to make money a few ways that I had used before. I am a stay-at-home Mom, so I don't have a full time job. In the past I have sold items online, for example, for a little extra spending money. I continue to do that. Also, another rule is that you can't make money using items you already have on hand. I changed that. I do a lot of sewing and have a lot of fabric and notions I've stockpiled over the years. I use those things because it just doesn't make sense to let it go to waste, nor do I have room for more until use this up.

Realizing just how important one penny on the ground is has helped change the way I view money. It has caused me to think twice before I spend any money, and even a handful of change has taken on new meaning. I have also discovered new ways of making money that I was unaware of before, writing for Associated Content being of them. In short, I have found Penny Millions to be a very useful tool for helping me get out of debt and eventually live the kind of life I truly desire. It has also helped me become more focused, determined, and empowered. I am seeing that I truly hold the reigns to my own life, and that it really is possible to take one cast off penny and use it to do more good than I ever thought possible.

I have been doing the "Penny Millions" concept since August 2007 and have been blogging about my step by step journey. I started by finding a penny and have recently reached Step 20 out of 28 steps to a million.
