Set up in the Southern Berkshire Mountains of Connecticut, Mohawk Mountain offers 24 trails on 107 skiable acres. The elevation at the summit is 1600 feet with a 650 foot vertical drop. Combined with the fact that Mohawk has a 95% snow making capacity and 12 trails that can be skied under the lights should provide all that is needed to create a wonderful balance of enjoyment and recreation. If traffic on the mountain is a major concern, 6 chair lifts consisting of (two triples, three doubles and a wonder carpet(Hawk's Nest area) will help to alleviate some of the congestion leaving more time to ski than waiting in line.
For the expert skier or those seeking a challenge, trails like Timber, Chute, Route 100 and Wildwood should help. Intermediate terrain is not neglected either as Exhibition, Arrow head and Mohawk will get your blood flowing. For the novice skier or those wishing to switch gears for a spell, Laurel, Ledges, Indian crossing, Nutmeg and Deer Run. Magic Carpet and the Nutmeg area provide a nice terrain for those just beginning their venture in the ski hobby or want to fine tune before heading up to the top of the mountain. The longest trail is 1.25 miles to offer a nice lengthy run in the scenic Berkshires and a chance to work up an appetite before retreating to the base lodge for refueling.
Two restaurant styles offer a diverse choice depending on your mood. The main base lodge offers a full service cafeteria setting serving hamburg, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, soup, drinks and other fast food choices. The Pine Lodge offers a more relaxed sit down style restaurant ambiance while the wait staff will take care of you. Steak, Lobster Bisque, sandwiches, wraps and salads will provide those eager for a relaxing and delicious meal, a suitable choice.
Don't have equipment, or are fairly new to the hobby, Mohawk mountain provides lessons, ski and snowboard rentals. With a full service ski shop, you can upgrade your wardrobe, purchase additional equipment you need or forgot to bring or enjoy browsing. On December 20th, Mohawk Mountain is offering a dynamite deal: Free snowboard and ski beginner lessons! This includes free equipment rental 1/2 hour lesson and beginner lift ticket-a $65.00 value. This is offered for those wishing to learn to ski or snowboard and is only offered on the Nutmeg and Magic Carpet areas ONLY.
If you wish to make this a ski vacation to remember and spend more than the day skiing at Mohawk, you can stay at one of the Inns, Lodges and cottages nearby. Just another alternative to not having to drive and spend more time skiing rather than driving. Cornwall Inn and Breadloaf Mountain represent two neighboring lodging possibilities.
Be sure to check Mohawk Mountain's official website to keep up to date as to trail conditions, calendar of events, updates and mountain upgrades to be as current as possible. Most of all get out there, have fun and enjoy the great outdoors while getting some needed exercise.
The fact that Mohawk Mountain has a day skiing lift ticket, half day or even night skiing, you have a wide variety of choices depending on your schedule. Maybe you just want to relax in the base lodge and be a spectator while having free WI_Fi access on your laptop, you are free to choose which road to take. Some added piece of mind in knowing that a professional ski patrol and medical facility is available if need be.
Get off the couch and get out to Mohawk Mountain and have some fun while enjoying the great outdoors!
