THE I'DS of MARCH

David B. Young
Julius Caesar was warned, or so the bard tells us, to beware the Ides of March. And I would also do well to beware the I'ds of this month when spring flirts but winter pours out its final wearisome weather on my soul.

Here are a few of the "I'ds" plaguing me.

I'd rise up early to go to the dawn prayer meeting at my church, but the covers are warm and I have not got in my full night's sleep.

I'd scrape the windshield on my neighbor's car, but I don't think a lady her age needs to be out in this kind of weather anyway.

I'd start walking again, but I'm prolonging my winter hibernation.

I'd start breaking the ground and clearing the moss from my garden plot, but who knows if I'd ever get the tiller started after a full year of disuse.

I'd go to the Bahamas if I could afford it.

I'd think the government would refrain from ruining spring with April 15th.

I'd hate to live in Alaska or even Montreal this time of year.

I'd love to live in Arizona in the winter, if I could escape before June.

I'd think the pastor could preach on something a little more comforting in these "urgent days."

I'd try to read my Bible everyday, but I can't remember where I put it Sunday after church.

I'd leave this gospel tract for our waitress, but then I'd have to give her a better tip.

I'd teach that Sunday School class, if I didn't have to study my lesson through the week.

I'd pray about going on a mission trip this summer, but I'd rather go in debt on a big vacation.

I'd get serious about God, but surely God is okay with my cold heart. I know I am.

Do you have the I'ds of spiritual winter in your heart this month? Leave them behind, and sail for the I'lls of spring and obedience to God.Do you have the I'ds of spiritual winter in your heart this month?I'd start breaking the ground and clearing the moss from my garden plot.I'd think the pastor could preach on something a little more comforting in these "urgent days."Julius Caesar was warned, or so the bard tells us, to beware the Ides of March.
