The Illegal Immigration 'Hot Potato'

From a Former Arizonan's Point of View

Betsy Ross
As a former Arizonan, who finally left the state and is now in 'political exile' further north of the border, some personal comments and observations as having been a four time 'victim' of this willful negligence on the part of both our city/state and federal governments.......

In a nutshell, grandstanding politicians looking out for their own political futures and careers are putting both our native born and naturalized 'lawful' citizens and their lives and property at risk.

In Arizona, at this point probably the most contentious state in the nation with respect to this issue, and also the MAJOR crossing point (since San Diego and El Paso received added fencing and security in the '90s, driving then the funnel to Arizona) this has become a political battle, and 'whose on first' scenario between the Governor, legislature, county sheriff, and city mayors. Other than the Minutemen (branded a 'terrorist' organization by the 'open borders' Bush administration), no one is protecting both the Arizonans, nor the other states which are now experiencing the ramifications of this war and influx of drug dealers, property thieves (jobs included) and violent criminals, in many cases. While the Republicans want the 'cheap labor' for their big business supporters, the Democrats and bleeding hearts speak of 'jobs American's don't want' (the Bush line) and these hardworking individuals. Funny, but unfortunately the 'minuses' far exceed the pluses in this situation, including the risk that not just the drug dealers and criminals are crossing these borders, but also other 'terrorists' from other nations. And unfortunately few Americans have yet to realize, that as Arizona goes on this issue, so goes the nation.

The most hypocritical aspect of all of this is that the State of Arizona has a remedy, as do other states in this country but will not use it because the 'political' games are more profitable for the 'players' and politicians in this 'whose on first' game. All that is necessary is for the several states, including Arizona, to pass an 'Act' of their own suing the federal government for 'breach of contract' in 'providing for the common defense' in getting those borders sealed pronto, especially after 9/11.

Sheriff Joe, Mayor Gordon, Governor Napolitano and all members of the Arizona legislature, and all those politicians in other states adversely affected by this problem have a solution. I wonder when the politics will stop, and they will actually do something constructive and drastic, which appears is what will be necessary, in order to force the federal government's hands, and also perform their Constitutional duties to their fellow state citizens and Americans.

Seven years after 9/11 is long enough It does appear that this President and the two 'presumptive' party candidates seem more concerned with the borders and security of Iraq and Israel over this country's. Betraying our country for the benefit others would appear to be actual treason upon our Constitution. We have armed Israel, and have even gone beyond the Congressional Resolution in this War on Terror in removing a Middle Eastern dictator. Maybe it is time for Israel and Iraq and their people to choose their own form of government and leadership, which actually would be fostering democracy much more than setting up puppet U.S. favoring governments, or claiming 'rights' to land, property and assets of foreign nations as our own, which will eventually turn these nations and the majority of their people against us. It is appears it is world domination now that is the goal, and the Middle East and it's oil reserves and not simply redressing the wrongs which were committed to this country and it's military and civilian population during the 9/11 attacks.

And the terrorism many in the Southwest and West are experiencing due to the increase in violent foreign and drug related crime and property thefts are no more than the same degree of terrorism as 9/11 - just not on as massive scale but occuring daily and now in even far greater numbers than those lives lost in the 9/11 attacks 7 years ago, estimated at 40,000 Americans affected at the end of 2007.
