The Illuminati and the New World Order

There is a conspiracy that there is a group of elite group of people IE. a secret society (the Illuminati) that have control of world government decisions and actions and seek to bring a New World Order. Historically the Illuminati were a real society founded on 1 May 1776 in Bavaria. The Illuminati secret society grew very quickly and within 10 years had 2000 members from all over Europe (though there is nothing stating this society had anything to do with a New World Order). The Illuminati had many high ranking members and due to its similar structure drew members from the Freemasons. Secret societies became band after the 10 year period and the Illuminati supposedly fell apart... or did it?
The modern vision of the Illuminati is of current high raking officials such as presidents and other members of high positions who all have a sinister plan to bring the New World Order upon the world. The idea that the Illuminati are a group of devil worshipers who will bring a New World Order upon humanity, that will consequently give way to the apocalyptic end of the world, actually has similarities to what is expressed in Revelations in the Christian bible. Revelations hints talks of a single world power driven by evil that will control everything on Earth but at the time of writing was most likely talking about Rome!But is it really that difficult to believe that there is a wool over our eyes, when you see other Eastern countries with dictatorships that control the media and never let their people know anything other than what they're told. How do we know this isn't the same for us?
