The Immaculate Perception

Are You Certain Your Positions Are Superior?

Snidely Whiplash
Having been around AC since late March, I sure have made some interesting observations about the CP's and their manner of presentation. I've discovered an almost complete lack of debate in favor of an "I'm right, you're a fool, and here's why," type of political positioning. If you're interested in debate, this is not going to satisfy your urge to give and take.

I can appreciate the method of presentation whereby the author states their position, leaving little or no room for debate, other than to enter a comment in the comments section where a respondent flames the author. Again, I am guilty of both types of acts, so I can appreciate the nuance of such a style, but what if we are itching for a give and take on the issues?

I am left with the impression that we CP's are not really open to debate. Perhaps we just like to dictate from on high to the masses of the "less informed, less aware, and less thoughtful." And that's okay I guess, but after a while I believe we begin to tune each other out. I know if someone posts more of the same, as I am guilty of doing, I assume our "opponents" just ignore the new articles as being a rehash of things the CP has already stated.

Or is it the "Immaculate Perception," mindset whereby we are so sure we hold the morally and intellectually superior positions that nothing our political opponents can say will sway us to take a good look at what we default to in our political sensibilities? And while some may be guilty of this, I am not one.

That is not to say an old dog can't learn new tricks, but I haven't heard much from the Liberal viewpoint that has ever caused me to question, in depth, my core beliefs. I have ingested what they say, chewed it up a little, swallowed and waited to see what happens. Rarely does it pass through the system, exiting in the usual way whereby I got all from it I could, but more often than not, I regurgitate the information as being bad for me, as in if I try to make it stay down, I will become sicker than Hell.

I guess for me Liberalism is the philosophical form of Ipecac Syrup. No matter how much I try to see it from their point of view, I'm always left with the feeling that there must be more to it, and I'm just ignorant of the beauty of Liberalism. In my many years of investigation I have not found the "magic bullet." And yes Lefties, I have studied Liberalism, seeking to understand why you hold the positions you do. Perhaps some of you need to actually study and ruminate about the tenets of Liberalism, as opposed to just trying to feel your way through life. I'm almost sure that if you do, you will no longer be a Liberal, but I can't prove that because you folks seem to be convinced of your right to the Immaculate Perception, thus never actually listening to yourselves. And you are wrong.

If you want some help with this problem, listen up. I have some sure fire ways to come to the light of reason and truth. But you have to follow my program. I cannot be responsible for what may happen if you fail to closely adhere to my advice.

The first step is to list, quoting directly from the sources, the speeches and sound bites of your leadership and the 4000 Dems running for the Presidency. After compiling a substantive list of quotes on as many Liberal talking points you can gather, you must do the following. You must read out loud, not just read in your head, these quotes. This is crucial. It's like the most important of all the tenets of any 12 step program.

When you read out loud the words of your leaders, you will give yourself a headache because you will not be able to believe how deluded you sound. And be careful to do this in private - pretend you're masturbating, cause if anyone sees you, or worse, hears you doing this, you will be involuntarily committed to an institution. And that's not going to help you regain any philosophical sanity, now is it?

The result, when the feeling your head is going to explode subsides, will be enlightening, to say the least. Listen to yourself as you mouth out loud the words. Ingest their actual meanings and do not just recite them. Better yet, find someone you trust and will keep your confidence, and ask them to listen to the words, and ask that they give you an opinion as to the sanity and workability of your recitation. And don't strike them when they laugh while asking you if you've fallen off your rocker. Remember, this is all about helping you grow.

Lastly, I would ask that when engaging in this activity you keep in mind that Liberalism and Socialism sound really good on paper, but in a practical matter, are as useless as tits on a boar hog.

Socialist nations require people to devote 50 or 60% of their income to taxes, so as to help keep up all the damn deadbeats who have found a way to get over within the system. Liberalism proposes solving the issues of the human condition on a global scale, and I hate to break ya'll's hearts, but that ain't ever gonna happen. It can't be successfully done on a national scale.

Look at the European Socialist nations. Their personal productivity is not nearly equal to ours, their personal wealth cannot compare to ours, their unemployment is at least double ours, even in these great economic times, and personal incentive is devalued. Why work overtime, or a second job, if you have to give more than half your income to government? While they may have universal health care, there are a whole bunch coming to the US to pay money for our health care when they can get it for free in their native lands. Why? Because of the quality of care and the inordinate time period one must sometimes wait to receive free care. There is National Health in the UK, but the private hospitals are thriving. Why? The answers are self-explanatory.

Liberalism is such an awesome concept, but is not a practical reality. I mean I love the thought of everyone being equal, but we ain't and no matter how many times you say we would be if Socialism were the reality, it's still not true. Reality will not make itself into your vision. It is what it is. Learn to work within the parameters of what is possible and not what would be if wishes were horses. In essence, give up this mental masturbation and get down to business in the real world. You'll be much happier and far more productive, and richer too. How bad can that be?

  • Some are absolutely convinced they are right.
  • Many believe their political positions to be unassailable.
  • Remember, a mnid is like a parachute. It must be open to work.

First of all, members of both sides suffer from unwillingness to listen. And secondly, AC isn't really the best platform for debate. It's ridiculous to expect that. CPs write articles on issues from their own perspectives. If you disagree strongly enough to state it, write your own take and link to the original article. That's the beauty. You don't have to be on a high perch to write an article on your position.

Lookin forward to it Doc. Thanks

Oh.. but it won't be on Liberalism. The two-party system is untenable. I refuse to play to that.... I'll straighten out many misperceptions on places like Sweden though, and address a better political structure for ya ;)

You are anything but stupid... but I see I am since I did not notice until now that the system cut off yet another comment. I'll work on an article for ya maybe like Monday-ish...

  • Jim Clayton5/9/2007

**should say I have NEVER been outta the US** sorry for the stupidity on my part.

Fair enuff Doc. I would love to read a factual representation of Liberalism. I would like the presenter to show the positive and the NEGATIVE. My mind is open. And I have been out of the US - but because I hate to travel, ie, not my bed, not my computer, not my stuff, not my house, etc. I would love to see Europe, especially the UK and the WW2 battlefields, but I don't see that happening, as my wife and I are self employed running 2 small businesses. Who will watch the shop while I'm gone?

I had said more, but it cut it off, and now my Lupus is acting up. My hands hurt like hell. I'm done typing for now. but think about what I said. Look up the info for yourself. The US is a propaganda machine, man. Believe about 10% of what you hear over there regarding the rest of the world...

  • DrDevience5/9/2007

I hate when it cuts off comments... let's see..mmm mm.. ok: Pushing your warped sense of values on the rest of the world. Capital One is trying to gain a foot hold over here since finding out that there is virtually zero personal debt here. People have Credit Cards only to make it easier to make flight and hotel reservations for their frequent vacations.

Better healthcare in the US? Are you shitting me with this? The main criteria for judging quality of healthcare is infant mortality rates. go look them up. Seden is second in the World... the US is 57th. FIFTY SEVENTH. Having dropped to that from 36th since Bush got elected... I assure you that the traveling health seekers are coming here, not to the US. the only ones going to the US are doing so for plastic surgeons who have little ethics and will operate on anyone with money.

OK. Where the hell to start. Geeze Louise! First off, that whole taxed-to-death idea is bullshit propaganda. My husband pays 30%, which is 10% lower than he would pay if we lived in the US based on his income level here. What would he get for that 30% over there? Ummm nothing. Here we do get healthcare, pristine highways, etc... politicians who do in fact represent us, multiple-party elections that are not winner-take-all like in the US. Taxes on purchases are 25%. That is high, but you never see it. The price marked is what you pay. Period, and no, that final price is not way higher than the US, and the stuff is better quality to boot! Car prices are in fact higher here... tyhat is all the ground you get on that little tax fallacy.
