The Immortal Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial

Sin Lucas
Yesterday was a long time coming if you ask many people. Yesterday was the groundbreaking of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial. Never in a million years could the cowards responsible for taking his life have known what they would start. I know by killing him they figured that his message, the movement would die with him so why is Dr. Martin Luther King one of the most beloved, well known figures in all the world? Because of his message, a message that might not have spread like wild fire if he was still alive. Think about it... By killing king they turned him into a ICON. His legacy will live forever. In a sense he's immortal.

I can't say how things would be in Dr. King was alive but would he have his own National Memorial, a memorial that will stand between the memorial of Presidents of the United States? A honor that has never been bestowed on a African American i might add. Would he have his own National Holiday? Although it took forever to get, that is a least one day that you are guaranteed to hear his message over and over again and on that day I would like to think that someone out there has been touched enough to change their life for the better.

I remember when i was younger, when my siblings and myself were in school, they barely talked about Dr. King. There was probably a half of a paragraph on him....he lived, he had a dreamed, he died. But today Dr King is everywhere and so his is legacy. Every child from this point forward will know Dr. King, they will know about his non violent approach on life, they will know what he stood for, what he stood up for and what he died for. They will know what his sacrifice did for all the generations that where there with him and the ones that came after him. So in conclusion, why we might be sad that Dr. King isn't with us anymore we have to remember in a way he is because even in death Dr. King is still making a difference. His work, his legacy is still here, all around us. He's still doing his part and now we have to step up and do ours.
