The Impact of Social Networking Sites like Facebook

How it is Bringing Back Old Friends and Can Be Used to Schedule Events to See People You Haven't Seen in a While..

Since the emergence of social networking sites, such as myspace and facebook, I don't know about everybody else, but I am now able to get a hold of old friends easily and keep in contact with family. These websites are revolutionary in the sense that they help us connect with others, not only that live far away from us, but also help us to get together with friends in the same community.

A friend of mine the other day got a hold of a high school friend she hadn't seen or talked to since high school! She was so excited to get in connect with that friend and she owes it to facebook. Facebook allows users to schedule events, such as parties and gatherings and make it inexpensive and easy to contact whomever you want that uses facebook. With these types of sites, it is now much easier to talk to people you may not have the courage or the means to call on the phone. These sites have opened up a door that allows us to connect, chat and get together with old friends and even make new ones.

I am against the whole "making friends online" thing but if you into that, facebook is a great place to talk to new people and get a sense of who they are and what they are about without even meeting them. Yes, people can pose to be someone they're not so beware. However, if you are in a university or some other type of away from home education, facebook is a great way to meet your peers and become friends.

Facebook can also be used to network with co-workers and even meet people whom you work with that you would never approach. It takes the butterflies out of getting to know somebody because you can view what they talk about and what type of person they are.

Social networking sites are good for a lot of things. Work, play or even games. People tend to comment that certain people are too old to have these networking sites and my word to them is mind your own business. Older people have the same rights to contact people on facebook that everybody else does. These sites will be around for a while and will probably increase in popularity as time goes on.
