The Importance of an Anti-Aging Diet

If you want to keep your skin looking and feeling younger the key is in the foods you eat. If this regimen is started before the aging effects of your skin have begun you will greatly reduce signs of aging. Reversing the effects of aging are harder then preventing the signs of aging, this is why its important to start maintaining a healthy well balanced diet prior to the onset of problems.

Antioxidants are known for having a huge effect on the body and skin. Antioxidants help your body and skin look and feel younger. A rule of thumb in finding high oxidant foods is to look for darker colored vegetables and fruits. These fruits and vegetables typically have higher antioxidant properties. For example blueberries, blueberries are known for being high in antioxidants.

To keep skin soft, supple and to keep the elasticity to the skin an important addition to your diet is Vitamin E. Vitamin E is found in almonds, avocados, sunflower seeds and olives. If Vitamin E enriched foods are not items you are interested you can take a daily Vitamin E capsule as a supplement.

The body needs calcium, Vitamin D, and various other vitamins and minerals. Adding cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli have shown in various studies to help protect against cancer, this include skin cancer. Vegetables that belong to the cruciferous family should become a regular part of all diets.

Protein is needed to help keep boosting muscle. Added weight will eventually put your health at risk. Around the age of 40 your muscle mass will begin to decline by 1% each year. Adding to your diet skinless poultry, lean pork and beef, beans, seafood and eggs are beneficial to keeping your muscle mass in check as you age.

Although diet is a very important factor in the aging process it is not the only factor. Stress, Ultraviolet UV rays and hormones can also have a devastating effect on the aging process.
