The Importance of Apologetics

Intellectualism, Evolution and Argumentation All Bow Down to the Christian God

Jared Moore
Apologetics frees Christians from unneeded fear of intellectualism. If this is God's world, and we're just living in it, then nothing can be rightly understood apart from Him. Whether the opponents of Christianity realize it or not, they live in the world we know, and which the Bible can account for. The Naturalist tries to argue using "reason" as the supreme authority. The problem is his perceived foundation cannot account for his conclusion. Evolution is incapable of producing "reason"; therefore, how can the Naturalist use "reason" to prove evolution? "Matter in motion" cannot account for reason; but Christianity can. We believe our reasonable God created all things reflecting His character. In the words of Cornelius Van Til, we have the "Atom Bomb" of Apologetics sitting in our basement. There's absolutely no need for Christians to cower below any of Satan's forms of "intellectualism"; for the Christian God can account for His world. Also, the Triune God can account for "God is love" while the Mormon, Muslim, and Jehovah's Witness gods can't. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit loved each other perfectly from eternity past; therefore, before creation existed, "God is love" has been an attribute of our God. Since no other religion has a Triune God, how can they account for this? Using Apologetics, we must lovingly show them the inconsistencies of their belief systems; and thus, show them how our God can account for our belief system.

Apologetics also paves the way for the Gospel. We must always remind ourselves that God's glory must be our goal. Apologetics has never saved anyone. Apologetics is not the Gospel, but it can certainly peek interest and tear down strongholds. Our goal must never be to "win an argument", but to win people to Jesus. The Gospel can save to the uttermost; and Apologetics can be used to show inconsistencies in worldviews, and to bring others over into our worldview showing them how Christianity can account for all creation, and thus, this will pave the way for us to show people what they have suppressed; that God created them for His glory, but they have sinned, and the only Way for them to be reconciled to God is through the finished work of Christ!
