The Importance of Being Yourself

In "The Wonder Years" a television program on ABC during the late 80's had a great story . The series was about a young man named Kevin Arnold that was a junior high school student and social problems during the 1960's had alot of impact on his life. The impact was his family's financial status as well as his problem solving skills dealing with perception of others and their character. Arnold was like a camera in third person watching over alot of things. The perception of the "camera" identified many personalities other than his own that were quite amusing. One of those charactors was a young lady with three pig tails. Those pigtails had no understanding by the other students. Many girls of the opposite color wore three, but this young lady kept wearing the pigtails regardless of rumors and bullying. Kevin Arnold was drawn to her due to her intelligence, not the way she looked. The girl liked the fact Kevin Arnold liked her, but he didn't want anyone else to know he was seeing her. If they found out, the problem would have been harder on both of them due to the fact others were cruel and didn't see eye to eye with different kinds of kids.

Kevin Arnold wasn't what you would call a nerd or what you would call a cool kid. He was just a teenager and didn't have to be the cool one or the nerd. If someone thought that he was a nerd, that was their problem not his. If they crossed the line of being too much of his problem, there was a way to set he or she straight. Kevin also came across some interesting teachers others thought were all wrong. Kevin didn't care much for what other people thought though. He liked people for who they were. Friendships doesn't necessarily have anything to do with age as long as you are mature enough to handle older friends. Kevin didn't wear the most expensive clothes or have the best of stuff, he just wore what mom and dad were able to afford.

If you see advertisements on television that show back to school and kids trying to be cool, you realize that those clothes are the same rip-offs of other brands and clothing in both places looks just like one another. It's sad to say that most clothing brands are nothing more than a copy of something else and the cheaper ones too. Going back to school has nothing to do with clothing, new stuff and meeting your friends again, it's what you learn that counts. If you want to do important things in your life and be a productive part of your community, pay attention to what's going on with the learning not what the cool kids are doing. If you notice on trutv and snapped on wetv. The fun kids wind up being losers because they don't pay attention and get into too much trouble. Bill Gates was the skinny nerd in school, and became the ceo and president of Microsoft Corporation. There have been individuals to say he also has a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome. Asperger's is a very high functioning form of autism that's not very detectable. How did Gates become a success? He paid attention and built his thoughts on larger things without having too much fun.

Life is a balance of many things, the taoist symbol is a yin-yang. There is a 50/50 amount of both black and white. The black symbolizes the ugly in life. Somethings we can't understand or figure out. The black can be too hard on us, but that's not the problem. The problem is the importance of the white that balances out the black. The white part is the fun and easy part. It's the things that make the black part easier. You are going to have hard times and easy times. If you deal with the darker half with easiness then that is light of the situation. Perhaps something is too hard for you, you just work through it piece by piece until it is fixed and then things are easier.

Half-Breed the song by Cher during the late 70's tells us about Cher's life as a Native American Caucasian mix. The truth of reservation life as a Native American child is extremely difficult because they have to deal with poverty and many other things. The outside world isn't as kind to them either. Native Americans have fought long and hard for almost 300 years to live side by side with other Americans in society. Cher brought awareness to the Native American life with her personality, her wisdom she learned, and attitude toward life. Eventhough Cher grew up in a difficult society, she made it huge with her music. Producers of television and radio liked her so much that she became a star and had fell in love with Sunny Bono. They both became one of the most wonderful memories that many people have ever had. Cher and Sonny had one child name Chasity Bono who later became a hit among people with her music. Chasity kept a secret for many years that hurt her, she later came out in the media with her issues. She felt different from other girls all of her life and later had an operation making her life easier. She had a sex change and became from lady a man.

People are not alike. We might see animals in the wild that look like one another, but no zebra has the same stripe nor tiger. Eventhough our ordinary housecats almost have the ability to be twins, they are totally different personality-wise. If you think one kitty likes Meowmix over another brand, you may be wrong. Kitties have different taste like humans. They want one brand of kitty food over another. Some cats prefer a brand of "sports mix" cat food over the stores leading brands. "Sports Mix" cat food is made by nutrena and sold at Farm supply stores throughout the United States.

The reason for adding so many examples to this article was to show you that individuals can overcome all obstacles in their life regardless of class, sex or situation. The article points toward young people because they deal with situations that we didn't face growing up, but if they "focus" they can be just as successful as the individual written about. The article was written by a woman with a form of autism. If you didn't notice before now you do.
