The Importance of Belts in Creating a Fashion Statement

Belts - Our Closet's Favorite Friend

Laura Egbers
One of the benefits to having belts is they add character and contrast to your outfits. Nothing adds more versatility to a closet for so little investment as a belt. They can make one dress into several different outfits. They make one shirt into several different color schemes. Not only do they enhance your wear ables for so little cost, they can be assessorized with your jewelry, purse and shoes.

The elegant twist belt adds flare to a dress, it compliments your figure while creating more color scheme for your outfit. The simplest of dress can be worn all year round just by changing the belt. Add a white twist for your spring and summer then change to black or brown for your fall and winter seasons. This change is created with complimenting shoes, purse and jewelry to give the allusion of having multiple outfits from just one simple dress.

Another versatile belt is the soft leather tie belt. This belt can be used for a dress, sweater, elongated baby doll shirts or enhancing a double breasted coat. This leather tie can be bowed, twisted or straight tied. Mix your colors of leather and create several different outfits from one. Another versatility for this belt is you can tie anywhere. Have a bow at the back, perhaps a straight tie on your hip or twist it for a nice tie in the front. Each creating a fun and new outlook on your outfit.

I think must of us agree that the tie belts with hanging fringe is a fun must for any closet. This belt comes to us from back in the sixties. It's fun and free and easy to accessorize. I love these belts because they are easy and loose. They give off a fun flare and can dress down or up our outfits.

Stubbed belts are also a credit to the sixties. These belts are fun and add statement to the outfit. These belts can be worn with any pair of jeans, yet still add flare and character to a dress or over-sized shirt. They can give a dress a face lift and down play a jacket. There just isn't a wrong or right about the stubbed belt. I'm glad their here and here to stay.

One of my favorite styles of belts is a chain belt. It can have the tangly chains to offset your waistline or a straight chain across the middle. It can change a "plain Jane" dress into something fun and snappy. It changes office wear into evening wear just by fastening a clasp and throwing on some boots. It's just that easy. Chain belts are fun and elegant.

The number one deciding factor to buying a belt is to have the shoes to go with it. Handbags and jewelry are good to think about too, but your belt should always compliment your shoes. So the next time you're looking for a new look, talk a walk back through your closet. You'll find a number of outfits just waiting to be born with the right belt. And if shoes are holding you back, well, I've never turned down an opportunity to get a new pair of those either.
