The Importance of Clear Thinking

Lee VanAmee
Clear thinking is definitely underrated in our society today as we have more and more things and people and ideas, etc. to distract us. The more distractions the easier it is to develop bad habits that lead us away from clear thinking and let us become dense and dull when we need our mind's resources the most. This does not mean we shouldn't have some distractions so that our mind is not working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but we should not also have a lifestyle that is so filled with these distractions that we have even forgotten how to think clearly and cleanly.

One good habit to develop is to simplify your life and your schedule enough so that when you are thinking about a solution to a problem or even a success plan; that you are not overloaded with 100 other thoughts of items that have nothing to do with what you need to be contemplating at the moment. That is when you know you need some down time because you can't let go of a lot of the trivial and menial things you have filled your life and brain with and need the space for some more important and interesting or time sensitive issues. Not all thinking has to be about emergency or crucial actions or decisions, and sometimes you just want to feel better by unloading all of these used up, outdated, nonessential, "important to others but not you" items that are taking up brain space that you need yourself to live a better life.

So it is always a good habit to set aside the time and energy to "clean house" in your thoughts area of your brain, on a fairly regular schedule. You can come up with ways that work for your particular circumstances but remember the goal is just like cleaning up any area, you want some clean, new to use as you will, fresh, bright space so that you can have a springboard for ideas and actions you are considering. Once you get in the habit; clear thinking becomes the norm and you start seeing that when you are getting distracted too much you will be more inclined to give up the distractions and go back to a clean and concise way of thinking so that you do not have to waste time, energy and resources to come up with a quick plan, decision, answer, or even dinner arrangements. Clear thinking is a definite positive habit to add to your day to day planning and time schedule, so that you can spend your time and energy on the pursuits that you have chosen, not wasting time on someone else's old answers and bad habits that are the same old, same old things.
