This can keep students in the know and up to date on current events that are important to their demographic. A lot of college magazines and newspapers serve as a soapbox for important issues. When it comes time to vote or if there are issues that town hall meetings or Student Government meeting will be addressing, it is good to be in the know about that type of stuff. These types of magazines also report on news items in your area and how it relates to you as a college student.
It is also beneficial to be in the know about what's going on with your school's sporting events. It keeps your college community connected. This is especially true if you attend a college with a big football or basketball program. There are always news to report on your players or games.
It is also good to keep up to date with the goings on in your town as far the night life and extracurriculars go. You could find out about some really good concerts or other events going on or read about events that just happened, like comedy shows or movie screenings. Some magazines will also report weekly on interesting places to eat out around the school. This is a good way to discover fun new places.
College magazines are also useful if you want to sublease an apartment or are looking for one. You can also find other items in the classifieds section including cars, motorcycles and maybe furniture. You can make a lot of useful connections through the classifieds. Some students looking for jobs can find employers who will let you work around your schedule.
Another benefit of these periodicals is that it gives students an opportunity to write and publish content. This also serves as good experience. Most college magazines are fully student run and that could mean a lot of opportunities for business, advertising and journalism students. And aside from experience for those students, this means that the magazine will be relevant and from the point of view of students.
This is why college magazines are a vital part of college life and can usually be seen in hands of every student as you walk around campus.
