The Importance of Destination Wedding Specialists

Candice Cain
Destination weddings are on the rise. According to the Fairchild Bridal Group, destination weddings have increased by 270% in popularity since 2007. Couples feel that destination weddings are less stress and more fun, plus they have the opportunity to start their honeymoon as soon as they say, "I do." There are a variety of other reasons why couples opt to have a destination wedding rather than a traditional wedding at home.

Since there is a rise in the occurrence of destination weddings, there is a rise in the need for Destination Wedding Specialists. When the trend of destination weddings first peaked in the mid-1980s, people would simply contact the resort or hotel where they were getting married to arrange everything. Destination weddings have evolved over time and, while virtually every resort has a wedding consultant on resort property, there is still a major void in the wedding industry for Destination Wedding Specialists. Whether a planner, photographer, travel agent or any other wedding vendor involved, there is a specific way to handle a destination wedding. Destination Wedding Specialists give couples the security and control over their own wedding that they need when they are not physically able to follow up with the wedding vendors that they employ.

The structure of planning destination weddings is still a relatively new concept. Many wedding planners, photographers and other vendors feel as though they can treat a destination wedding like a traditional wedding, only a bit further from where they usually conduct business. This is not the case. Destination weddings require the creation of a plan that will be implemented and executed, strict attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, the ability to think outside of the box and an assertive attitude to get things accomplished.

Destination Wedding Specialists are the voices of the couples whose wedding they are creating. Destination wedding couples rely a bit more heavily on their Destination Wedding Specialists, as they are more familiar with the process of planning a destination wedding as well as the location in which the wedding shall be held. For this reason alone, Destination Wedding Specialists must be confident in their knowledge. They must be able to answer whatever questions are asked of them with ease, and know the source to ascertain the answers to the questions that they do not know. They must be the advocate for their wedding couple in every situation that may arise. A Destination Wedding Specialist is a planner, travel agent, tour guide and therapist all rolled into one.

Regardless of all of the work that goes into each destination wedding, the final product is worth more money than anyone could ever put a price on. A destination wedding is a unique and emotional experience-more so than a traditional wedding, as there are many more levels to a destination wedding than a traditional one. It is the job and responsibility of the Destination Wedding Specialist to execute it as flawlessly as possible.
