The Importance of Medical Jewelry

Ambriel Maji
When people think of medical jewelry the first thing that usually comes to mind are the bulky silver bracelets with the red medical cross on them. Many people are instantly turned away due to the visual appeal of the jewelry.

Today's markets have drastically changed the look and appeal of medical jewelry. The styles have changed to include higher quality metals, gemstones, or styles. Regardless of the style of medical jewelry chosen medical jewelry can save lives.

No matter the age of a person if you have a disorder or allergy that can adversely affect your life it's important that you are able to notify emergency medical teams if you become incapacitated. This is when medical jewelry can save your life. Many times people carry cards in their wallets but when an emergency strikes it may be hard to locate a wallet sized card that could be wedged between other items in your wallet.

Medical jewelry saved my life. I am highly allergic to Acetaminophen, more commonly known as the main ingredient in Tylenol. A more rare allergic reaction but it causes me to go into anaphylaxis shock. Anaphylaxis shock is the rapid development of an allergic reaction mainly swelling in the lungs causing one to become unable to breathe.

Without wearing medical jewelry medical care providers have no way of knowing if a medication they are giving you will have an adverse effect on your health or if it will trigger other health problems. Diabetics should wear medical jewelry not only for medical care providers but also to alert people around them if their sugar happens to bottom out and they need assistance quickly. This will aid in having people know what the problem may be and to help you until emergency medical teams can respond.

If you have been on the fence about purchasing medical jewelry due to the visual appeal you can quickly put those feelings to rest. Most medical jewelry now looks like regular jewelry and comes in a variety of styles and price ranges.

Save a life or your own by promoting medical jewelry.
