The Importance of a Personal Family Budget

Matt Parson
Having a family can be a huge responsibility. There are countless things that must be taken care of everyday and the safety and security of said family is foremost in the mind. That is why it is so important for a personal family budget to be in place. The financial area of your life as it pertains to the family is the deciding point between happiness and extreme stress. Those who fail to use a family budget often end up with family problems and worse yet, devastating financial losses, all of which could have been prevented with a bit of planning.

The family budget is really nothing more than a listing of the expenses and incoming monies on month to month basis. While some people believe that the budget must be a complicated mess of numbers and accounting practices, the common person will find that simplicity is the best method. Complicating the situation will only create havoc and therefore bring about the downfall of the entire system that is designed to protect all involved. So the first rule of the family budget should most certainly be to keep it simple.

One of the major issues that many people have with the family budget is the belief that such measures will limit the control one has over their money. That is simple a myth that many financial experts have tried to diffuse for many years. The fact is that the personal family budget simple acts as a guide so you know where the money you bring in must go on a monthly basis. In all truth, the money is already allocated, but it allows for sound financial planning when you know the expenses that you have against the money you have coming in. The control you have over your money is never changed by a budget, but it is something that makes sense for a person who wants to lead a stress free life when it comes to money matters.

When you look over a family budget you will be able to ascertain areas where savings can occur. For instance, you will have a side by side comparison of the expenses you have to compare to the incoming money. The end result is the profit or extra money you have each month. What you do with that money is your own decision. However, this also proves useful when thinking about making a change. Perhaps you are thinking about moving to a larger home. Well you will need to see how much you can afford each month for the payments. With the family budget in place and kept up to date you have the information you need right at your fingertips.

The need for a personal family budget cannot be stressed enough. Having a set amount that you spend each and every month on expenses gives you peace of mind. It is simply sound financial planning when you sit down and figure out how much you have and how much you need. This will ensure you continued safety and security when it comes to your family.

I know for most people living on a budget is difficult, but really it's the adjusting period that's hard. One area where adjusting could be a lot simplier is saving money on the cell phone bill. By switching to prepaid I save about 50 dollars a month. I have net10 a flat 10 cents a minute, I use around 250 to 300 a month, so about 30 dollars month in stead of 80 I was paying in a contract. It's a painless way to save money.

A quick note to share my personal experience with you.

A friend told me about a free budgeting website recently and I have been using it for almost 6 months now and find myself transformed financially. It's a consumer oriented online budgeting tool that is very functional and is packed full of user oriented online help and guidance making it very easy to use, almost too good to be free.

It's called Out Of The Dark (OOTD) on the web at:
