The Importance of Podcast RSS Feeds

How RSS is Changing the Face of the Internet

To recap my earlier RSS article, a podcast is a way of sending audio and video files to a client's podcast reader/receiver. Those who get your podcast are known as subscribers, while the podcast receiver is the technology that lets them subscribe to your content. The receiver is connected to the world wide web, searching for certain content that the client or viewer tells to to search for. This content is called an "RSS feed", or a string of code that transmits content streams to the podcast receiver.

In general, RSS feeds are often used to pass out all kinds of content, and their origins come from the early blogging programs when authors wanted to share blog posts. As technology progressed, several folks decided to include media information inside that RSS feed. This way they could create applications that would find and download the information from these media streams.

The newly christened "Podcast RSS feeds" rapidly became popular, with RSS receivers created to let folks utilize these codes. Podcasting as it's now called (Taken from the popular Apple iPod) soon became a way to easily send new material to subscribers. Instead of making viewers come to the website that houses the content whenever they want an update, users could count on the receiver to do it instead-tracking all the podcast feeds they liked and automatically saving them to the computer.

Nowadays these feeds help send out many different forms of podcast feeds. Thanks to the various types of media that can be handled in a podcast, everyone from business bloggers to amateur film producers can use the technology to get their work into the public eye. Some enterprising individuals have even started their own unofficial "radio stations" using Podcasting, without the normal startup costs and upkeep required of a regular radio station.

Thanks to the inexpensive cost of obtaining and using the technology, Podcasting RSS feeds are changing the face of media even now as millions of people who would normally never get the chance to be heard can share their thoughts with the world daily.

Podcasting RSS feeds also take the monetary sting out of publishing, allowing those without a lot of investment savings to show their work to others. At the same time, these feeds are also slowly being discovered by larger companies who understand the meaning of change.

Podcasting RSS feeds are quickly propelling us forward in the realm of technology. The question is, how are you going to use it?
