Prenatal Care has been proven to reduce pregnancy related mortality, and prevents certain possible birth defects and low birth weight. While not compulsory, it helps your pregnancy by collecting the mother's medical history, checking the mother's blood pressure, height and weight, examining the mother's pelvis, giving the mother a blood and urine test, and finally, given an interview with a caregiver. Collecting your medical history would allow you as the mother to be aware of any possible past medical condition that may or may not threaten the pregnancy or the health of the child itself. Checking your blood pressure, height, weight, blood, urine, and the condition of your pelvis would give your physician an idea of your current physical condition, and whether you would be able to weather the stresses of childbearing. It would also allow your physicians to detect any possible warning signs of current or imminent health problems that may be detrimental to your pregnancy.
Prenatal Care is important. However, some mothers have chosen to go without prenatal care due to either ignorance of the healthcare services available for pregnancy, or financial issues that deter them from going ahead with the prenatal care. Some mothers do not have health insurance that covers prenatal care, and as such, choose to forgo prenatal care. However, without prenatal care, the mother is susceptible to problems during and after pregnancy. Prenatal care ensures that the development of the baby is as healthy as possible, and uses equipment such as obstetric ultrasounds to periodically monitor the progress of the development. If as a mother, you have considered your financial situation and decided against going for prenatal care, i urge you to reconsider. The price of prenatal care is insignificant compared to having given birth to a healthy baby.
In the worst of cases, prenatal care can determine before the birth if the baby will have any birth defect, or will be born with any medical conditions. While some parent would prefer not to know, this information can help you as the parent of the baby to prepare mentally and financially for these adverse conditions which your baby is subjected to. It would allow you time to adjust your finances and learn more about taking care of children with these conditions, to ready yourself for the arrival of the child.
Prenatal care is vital in keeping you and your baby healthy. It monitors closely how well you and your child are doing, and is well worth the cost. Don't ignore the need for prenatal care. Make sure that you are doing the best that you can for you and your baby.
