The Importance of Teacher Student Relations

Chris Tidwell
Teachers are some of the most disrespected figures in our society. Starting from day one when children are introduced to pre-school and all through college students see teachers as something less then human, or at least for the most part. High School is probably the worst time for teachers because of the attitudes flying around from all the students, and college can be tough too, but if you actually take the time to get to know your teachers it can be an extremely rewarding experience.

Teachers were hired and placed into the school system because they have extensive knowledge in the field they teach, and so should be respected because of that alone. Your teachers have knowledge way beyond that of a normal person and are very smart contrary to popular belief and they can be very helpful in your life, even outside of the classroom. Teachers get paid the bare minimum that the system has to pay them, yet they put up with more then anyone would expect any sane human being to have to put up with, yet they do it because they love it.

You have heard that having friends in high places is an essential asset in the real world right? Well it's true, having friends in high places to help you, bail you out of trouble, or vouch for you in a tense situation is very important. If you are in good with the teacher then your life will be so much easier throughout your schooling career. Your teacher may become like a best friend to you and will be able to assist you in many different ways, from help in the classroom to lessons in life.

While your reading this don't think you have to be a complete suck up to your teachers, just be respectful. Don't be a complete jerk in class, pay attention, do your work, just common sense stuff. Teachers are there to teach, not baby-sit and the most annoying thing to a teacher is not being able to get through a lesion due to an immature group of students. Also disrespect is another big thing with teachers. Yes you both may be adults, but many times the students are not acting like one. Basic respect in the classroom will be enough to be on your teacher's good side.

Teachers are great, they help us get through our hard times as adolescents and teach us important skills that will be essential in the real world. Many times if you have a good student teacher relationship you will be able to get extra help when you need it and your path through school and on into the real world will be paved smoothly instead of being so bumpy. So just try and give the respect to your teachers that they actually deserve.
